Scholarship Awarded to Ana G. Fuentes

Ana G. Fuentes, Winner of 2009 Scholarship

The Spanish American club, Inc. awarded $500 scholarship to a local Hispanic student. Ana a Mexican descendant lives in Indiantown and is attending South Fork High School with a 3.8 GPA. Sheplans to study Business Administration at La Guardia Community Collage, Staten Island, New York.

This year, 19 students applied for the scholarships and 15 sat for personal interviews with the committee. The awards were based on academic achievement and other factors. Students must be a resident and a senior from Martin or St. Lucie County, maintain a 3.0 grade point average (GPA). Hispanic students from low income families are encouraged to participate.

The money raised at the monthly meetings is comprised of donations from the members who participated in a variety of activities organized by events committees. Events include a four day boat trip to the Bahamas, jewelry exhibitions, painting raffles and door prizes.

SACI entrega becas a estudiantes hispanos 2009

El Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) otorgó una beca a una estudiantd local.  Ana Gabriela Fuestes de padres mexicanos y residente de Indiantown.  Ana es estudiante de 3.8 de “GPA” de la escuela South Fork High School y también piensa estudiar administración de negocios en La Guardia Community College en Long island City, New York.

Tras evaluar todas las solicitudes (19 recibidas) y entrevistar a 15 estudiantes, el comité de becas compuesto por este servidor, Isa Bryson, Gladys Piñeiro y Nancy Rozon seleccionó los dos finalistas.  Finalmente, quiero agradecer al presidente del club este año Jimmy Rivera y su directiva compuesta por Nancy Rozon, Al Feliciano, Ron Bryson y Gladys Piñeiro por ayudar a levantar los fondos para las becas.
