SACI kicked off school supplies drive

The Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) kicked off the holiday season with its School Supplies Recollection. In two months the association was able to collect two full boxes of schools supplies for needy children in the area. Because so many children, living on a limited income this time of the year, some members of the Spanish American Club, Inc. saw the need to reach out and formed a committee to collect school supplies to help the teachers and young students.
Kathy Rivera and Mary Figliola started the committee. At the last two monthly meetings or Get Together (Halloween and Thanksgiving parties), they collected school supplies such as notebooks, paper, pencils, erasers, paper clips, crayons, coloring books, construction paper, scissors, etc. The members meet monthly to socialize, eat and dance Latin music. The SACI is a nonprofit organization to preserve the Hispanic heritage on the Treasure Coast. Thanks to those members and non members that made the donations.
SACI recauda artículos escolares El Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) realizó el segundo recogido de artículos escolares entre los socios del club. En las dos últimas actividades sociales, la asociación ha recaudado dos cajas llenas de artículos escolares para niños de bajos recursos económicos. Porque muchos niños de familias de escasos recursos están viviendo momentos muy difíciles en estos tiempos navidadeños, algunos socios del club se juntaron y formaron un comité para recaudar artíclulos escolares para ayudar a los profesores y a estudiantes jovenes.
El comité lo formó Kathy Rivera y Mary Figliola. En las dos últimas fiestas del club (Brujas y de Acción de Gracias) han colectado artículos escolares como libreats, papel, lapices, borradores, crayolas, papel para dibujar, tijeras, etc. Los artículos escolares serán repartidos por Kathy Rivera, Mary Fgliola y Nancy Rozon en las escuelas de los condados de Martín y St. Lucie. Los socios se reunen mensualmente para compartir, cenar y bailar. El SACI es una organización no percurnaria para preservar la herencia hispana en la Costa del Tesoro. Muchas gracias a todos los socios y no socios que hicieron las donaciones.

On Saturday, November 21st the members of the Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) started the Christmas toys drive with a Thanksgiving dinner at the residence of Dana and Maite Peterson in Palm City. Over 30 children from low income families will have a merrier Christmas this year thanks to the efforts of the members of the club. The members donated unwrapped Christmas gifts for children between the ages of 6 months to 10 years old. The gifts were given to Agueda Mejia, director of the Christmas gifts committee who will distribute them in Indiantown, Golden Gate and Hobe Sound. Agueda also distributed food gift certificates from grocery store to family in need in Indiantown for Thanksgiving. Thanks to our members for their donations.

El Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) realizó el primer recogido de juguetes navideños entre los socios del club. En total se recaudaron más de 30 juguetes en la fiesta de Acción de Gracias en la residencia de la familia Peterson en la ciudad de Palm City. Los socios donaron regalos navideños para niños de familias de escasos recursos entre las edades de 6 meses a 10 años. Los regalitos fueron entregados a Agueda Mejía, directora del comité de regalos navideños quien los distribuirá en Indiantown, Stuart y Hobe Sound. Agueda también distribuyó certificados de mercados a familias de escasos recursos para el Día de Acción de Gracias en la ciudad de Indiantown. Muchisimas gracias a los socios y no socios que donaron los regalitos navideños.

SACI’s Thanksgiving Party

Members of the Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) hosted the Annual Thanksgiving Party on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at Dana and Maite Peterson residence in Palm City. The members and guests enjoyed an evening of camaraderie, delicious food and music. After the dinner the scholarship committee held a raffle for the door prize donated by Nancy Rozon. The winner was Reinaldo Matias. The members donated unwrapped Christmas gifts for children between the ages of 6 months to 10 years old. The gifts were given to Agueda Mejia, director of the Christmas gifts committee who will distribute them in Indiantown, Golden Gate and Hobe Sound.
The members also donated school supplies for kids of low income families. The school supplies will be distributed by Kathy Rivera, Mary Figliola and Nancy Rozon in Martin and St. Lucie counties. Thanks to the Peterson family for hosting the get together and to the members that donated school supplies and toys for needy children. Also, thank you to those who were not members, but helped with the Christmas gifts and school supplies donations.
Fiesta de Acción de Gracias del SACI

Con vinos, cervezas y un exquisito bufét latino, los socios e invitados del Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) disfrutaron el Sábado 21 de noviembre de la tradicional fiesta de “Thanksgiving”en la residencia de Dan y Maite Peterson en la ciudad de Palm City. Después de la cena se hizo la rifa del premio que donó Nancy Rozon. El ganador fue Reinaldo Matias. También se recaudaron los juguetes navideños y los artículos escolares para niños de familias de bajos ingresos.
Los regalos navideños serán repartidos por Agueda Mejia, directora del comité de regalos navideños en el condado de Martín (Indiantown, Golden Gate y Hobe Sound). Agueda también distribuirá certificados para el Día de Acción de Gracias a familias de bajos inglresos en la ciudad de Indiantown . Gracias a la familia Peterson por donar su residencia para la fiesta y a todos los que donaron los regalos navideño y articulos escolares.

SACI announces Board of Directors 2009

The Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) elected a new board for the fiscal year 2009. The directors perform their responsibilities in good faith, which does not harm the organization and avoid any conflicts of interests. The SACI boards of directors assist in setting policy, fundraising and advocacy. In addition to these duties, they are well versed in SACI’s mission, purpose, goals and objectives. The SACI is a non for profit organization founded in 1992 to promote the Hispanic heritage in the Treasure Coast.

Los socios del Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) eligieron nuevos directores el sábado 10 de enero durante una concurrida ceremonia en el Disabled American Veterans Club (DAV) de Port St. Lucie. Jimmy Rivera recibió el mallete de manos del presidente saliente, Lionel Román. Lionel Román también le entregó placas de agradecimiento a los directores de la pasada directiva: Herman Santa, Ron Bryson, Connie Giraldo-Silver y Blanca Mireya Kaiser. Acto seguido, el nuevo Presidente Rivera le otorgó una placa de agradecimiento al Presidente saliente Román.
Durante la reunión, también se aprobó hacer algunos cambios a los estatutos y se nominaron dos nuevos socios honorarios. Ellos son: Ivonne Fraga del periódico “La Voz” y la artista Lydi Pallares. Concluyó la reunión con la entrega de una placa de agradecimiento a Agueda Mejía por la labor que hizo para el club el año pasado en el Comité de Recolección de juguetes. El SACI es una entidad social sin fines de lucro cuyo objetivo es preservar la herencia hispana en el área. Opera por fondos que obtienen mediante actividades sociales mensuales en las residencias de los socios.

Mardi Gras 2009
SACI’S members celebrate Mardi Gras

The annual Mardi Gras Party of the Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) was held on Saturday February 28. Nearly 100 members of the club and their supporters attended the event in the Disabled American Veterans Club in Port St. Lucie. The party started with a cocktail, and then a “picada” and later on the evening they finished with a buffet. After the dinner, they celebrated the member’s birthday for the month of February. They enjoyed an evening of camaraderie, laughs, mingling and dancing music with the rhythm of Santa’s Entertainment.
During a break, club member Jaime Rojas presented a picture print from Mexican Artist Octavio Ocampo to be raffle for the scholarship, and then Elvis Presley impersonator, David Townsend, sang few sons from the singer. The Scholarship Committee raffles the door prizes. The winners were: Alvaro Manzanares (50/50) and Gladys Velez (Hat Dance). All proceeds will go to the scholarship funds of the club. The Spanish American Club, Inc. is a non-for profit social club. One of its goals is to preserve the Hispanic heritage in the Treasure Coast.
Rumba, disfraces y buena comida en baile de “Mardi Gras”

El salón del Disabled American Veterans Club de Port St. Lucie se vistió de Mardi Gras para recibir a los socios del Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) y a un distiguido grupo de invitados especiales a su espectacular baile anual Mardi Gras. Jimmy Rivera, presidente de la organización y sus directores, Nancy Rozon, Al Feliciano, Ron Bryson y Gladys Piñeiro dieron la bienvenida a los invitados a una noche de baile, cena, colorido, alegría y sabor latino.
El “Highlight” de la noche fue David Towsend quien se vistió de Elvis Presley y nos cantó algunas canciones del cantante de rock. Los ganadores de los premios fueron los siguientes: Alvaro Manzanares ($75 del 50/50) y Gladys Vélez (Botella de vino del baile del sombrero). Todas las ganancias irán al fondo de la beca del club.

A Latin night in the spring

Eating and dancing at the monthly Get together have become a good fund raising effort of the members of the Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) in Martin and St. Lucie counties. The first two party of the year, held at the Disabled American Veterans in Port St. Lucie to celebrate the election of the new Board of Directors and last month to celebrate Mardi Gras were planned and generated some funds for the scholarship.
The last one, held at the home of Dana and Blanca Mireya Kaiser in Port St. Lucie, was a beautiful spring party. The food with a Latin flavor were donated and prepared be the members in their private homes. “Spring Party” una fiesta muy divertida

Fue una tarde con una brisa de primavera ideal para disfrutar de un alegre “Spring Party”. Dana y Blanca Mireya Kaiser, los dueños de la amplia y linda residencia en la ciudad de Port St. Lucie recibieron a los socios e invitados el sábado 28 de marzo para celebrar la fiesta mensual de los socios.
En un receso, el presidente del club Jimmy Rivera le informó a los invitados de las próximas actividades que incluyen un viaje en el crucero “Majesty of the Seas” de cuatro días el 21 de septiembre, un picnic en la playa de Jensen Beach para celebrar el Día de los Padres con un torneo de dominó el 20 de junio. También hubo una exposición de joyas presentado por Betty Miletich para recaudar fondos para la beca. Verdaderamente fue una gran reunión mensual donde los socios e invitados disfrutaron de un rico bufét, postres, música y tragos.

Saci’s Party…good food, music and friendship

On Saturday April 25 the members of the Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) celebrated another great get together. The event was held at Felix Asencio’s residence at the South River Shores subdivision in Port St. The members and guests started with a cocktail and then they ate a delicious Spanish buffet. After the dinner, the members and guests enjoyed the evening with the beat of Latin music that Felix had selected for the occasion. Later in the evening the scholarship committee sold raffle tickets of a print of Mexican artist Octavio Ocampo. All proceed will go to the Scholarship Funds of the club. Great party Felix!

El pasado sábado 25 de abril, en un exquisito ambiente de camaraderia y buen gusto, se dieron cita los socios del Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) por sus siglas en ingles para celebrar la reunión mensual de los socios. La fiesta se llevó a cabo en la residencia de Felix Asencio en la subdivision de South River Shores en Port St. Lucie. De la gastronomia ni hablar, los socios trajeron platos exquisitos para compartir. Después de la cena Felix nos puso música para bailar y disfrutamos una noche amena y alegre.

Mother’s 2009
SACI’s Mother’s Day Party

On Saturday, May 16, 2009, the members of the Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) celebrated Mother’s Day. The members and guests started with a cocktail followed by a delicious dinner that was catered by the members. After the dinner, there board raffled some doors prizes to raise funds for the scholarship. The winners were as follows: Luisa Cintrón, Rockie Bolling, Linda Manzanares, Nora Candelario and Lucy Santa.
After the raffle, the members and guests enjoyed the evening with the Latin rhythm of D.J. Adan Mendoza. We had a good time. The party was one of the best in a long time. The members enjoyed every moment of it with laughs, love and good camaraderie. Thanks to Mary Figliola and her mother Lily Amador.
Festejan los socios del SACI el Día de las Madres

Los socios del Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) festejaron el Día de las Madres el sábado 16 de mayo en la ciudad de Ft. Pierce. Los socios empezaron con un coctél y disfrutaron de un delicioso bufét preparado por los mismos socios. Después de la cena, se hizo la rifa para recaudar fondos para la beca estudiantil.
Los ganadores fueron: Luisa Cintrón, Rockie Bolling, Linda Manzanares y Nora Candelario. La ganadora del baile del sombrero fue Lucy Santa. Lo pasamos divinamente, de verdad que la fiesta ha sido una de las mejores fiestas en muchos años. Reinó la alegria, el amor y la camaradería. Mil gracias a Mary Figliola y a su mama Lily Amador quienes prestaron el “clubhouse” para la fiesta.

Picnic 2009
Lots of food, games, music and fun at SACI’s picnic

Over 60 members, families and friends of Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) attended the annual picnic of the club on Saturday, June 20, 2009 at the Jensen Beach. What a great day. The weather was perfect for an outdoor event. Lots of food, music, games and laughs were had by all.
The members and guests started with a breakfast prepared by the president Jimmy Rivera, and then they ate lunch and played some games as dominoes, volleyball, horseshoe, etc. Later in the afternoon some raffles (50/50 and a five days boat cruise) and a hat dance added to the excitement. The winners were Nilda Betancourt (Cruise), Dina Castro (50/50) and Delia Díaz (Hat Dance). All proceeds will go to the scholarship funds of the club. We are especially pleased with the hard work of our board, the picnic committee and the members who volunteers to raised funs for the scholarship.
Mucho asado, musica, juegos y diversion en el picnic

La experiencia de una buena barbacoa es mucho más que asar unos cortes de carne a la parrilla. Eso se lo pueden preguntar al presidente del club Jimmy Rivera, experto en ese tipo de actividad al aire libre quien con la ayuda de sus familiares y de los directores del Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI), nos preparó no solo el almuerzo sino también el desayuno el sábado 20 de junio en la playa de Jensen Beach.
Para culminar la tarde, nos deleitamos con exquisitos postres y café. Luego se hizo la rifa del crucero de 5 días a las Bahamas, el “Fifty Fifty” y se rifo una botella de vino para el último que se quedara con el sombrero en la pista de baile. Los ganadores fueron: Nilda Betancourt Crucero), 50/50 Dina Castro (50/50) y Delia Díaz (Baile del sombrero). Todos los fondos reaucados de las rifas irán al fundo de la beca del club.
La tarde estuvo perfecta para un asado en la playa. Hubo diversión para todos desde la cerveza bien fria, la música y el asado hasta las rifas y los juegos. Los que no jugaron dominó, se divertieron jugando herradura y volleyball. Algunos se broncearon en la playa y otros se dieron una zambullida en el mar.

SACI awards scholarship to Anthony Sanchez

Anthony Sanchez, Winner 2008 Scholarship
The Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) recently donated $500 to a Hispanic student. Since 1992, when the club was founded, the nonprofit organization has donated more than $10,000 to local Hispanic students.
This year’s recipient was Anthony Sanchez. Anthony was born in Vero Beach and his parents are from Bogotá, Colombia. He graduated from WestwoodHigh School last year. He is attending Indian River Community Collage studying dentistry. For additional information about the scholarship call 486-4928.
This year Scholarship Committee members are as follows: Director, Herman Santa, Nancy Rozon and Isa Bryson. The Board of Directors are: Jimmy Rivera; President, Nancy Rozon; Vice President, Al Feliciano; Secretary; Ron Bryson; Treasurer and Gladys Piñeiro; Member at Large.

SACI otorga beca a otro estudiante hispano
El Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI), otorgó una beca de $500 al estudiante Anthony Sanchez de Ft. Pierce.
Anthony nació en Vero Beach, Florida de padres colombianos. Anthony vive en Ft. Pierce y piensa estudiar medicina en la especialidad de “Dentistry” en el “Indian River Community College”. El ganador de la beca fue seleccionado por el Comité de Becas del club. El comité está compuesto por este servidor y las profesoras Nancy Rozon, Gladys Vélez e Isa Bryson. Los directores del club son: Jimmy Rivera; presidente, Nancy Rozon; vicepresidente, Al Feliciano; secretario, Ron Bryson; tesorero y Gladys Piñeiro; vocal.
