The Spanish American Club, Inc. awards scholarship

Kenya Sorto
The Spanish American Club, Inc. is proud to recognize one outstanding student selected to receive one of the four club’s 2021 scholarship awards. The recipient is Kenya Sorto Ramirez of Port St Lucie.
Kenya was born in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Her parents are José Sorto born in El Salvador and Gabriela Ramirez born in Mexico. Kenya attended St. Lucie West Centennial High school in Port St Lucie, Florida and will be attending University of Central Florida where he will be pursuing a degree in Finance.
This year scholarship committee Chair by Nancy Rozon and Co-chair by Pamela Peña Elizabeth Mejía and Herman Santa along with the board of directors Carlos Bonet, President; Al Feliciano, Vice President; Evelyn Carrillo, Secretary; Josephine Guadalupe, Treasurer; Vivian Megaro, Public Relations: Nancy Rozon, Director; Mary Figliola, Substitute Director did a magnificent job selecting the students and running the program smoothly. The committee selected the students for their achievements, trustworthiness, character, responsibility, fairness and academics.

Members of The Spanish American Club, Inc. hosted the Annual Independences Party (USA, Venezuela, Argentina, Colombia and Perú on Saturday, July 24 at the Disabled American Veteran’s Club in Port St. Lucie.
Everyone enjoyed an evening of drinks, snacks, dancing and raffles. Master of ceremonies and president of the club, Carlos Bonet, welcomed everyone to the party and gave an update of the status of the club and thanked every one of them for their continued support. Attendees were entertained by D.J. José Ramirez.
After the president’s update, the D.J. played a Happy Birthday song for the members that were celebrating their birthdays in the month of July. Among them present, were: Yvonne Bonet, Theresa Peña, Lillian Villegas and Sandra Tirana. Door prize winners: Martha González, Stella Paéz, Javier Andrade and Cecilia Pulido. 50/50 winners: Elizabeth Mejía, Ligio Pinto-Bernas and Cecilia Pulido.
A big thanks to our members and guests who helped with the decorations, set ups and assisted throughout the night. The board is planning the next event “Luau Dance” on Saturday, August 28th at the Disabled American Veterans Hall on California Blvd, Port St. Lucie. Reservations are required. The Spanish American Club, Inc. hosts Annual Christmas Dinner Dance

On Saturday, December 18, members and supporters of The Spanish American Club, Inc. gathered to celebrate the club’s last event of the year at the hall of the Disabled American Veteran (DAV) located at 1150 SW California Blvd., Port St. Lucie, Fl. 34953.

Carlos Bonet, club president, master of ceremonies and D.J. welcomed everyone to the event and thanked everyone for continued support. The attendees enjoyed a delicious buffet of pork, chicken, rice, Yucca, salad and dessert. Entertainment was provided by Carlos Bonet. During a break, Al Feliciano, Vice president, conducted the door prizes and 50/50 raffles, and the December birthday celebration. Among the birthday members present were: José Rodriguez, Gebhard Saup, Elizabeth Mejía, Mary Figliola, Javier Andrade, Virginia Feliciano and Gustavo Santa.

A big “Thank You” went out to the board, who worked very hard to make the last annual event of the year a big success. Many thanks to the members who helped with the decorations and set-ups and finally, thanks to the members that donated the door prizes, Christmas toys for under privilege children and bought tickets for the raffles. Proceeds will benefit the club’s scholarship program.
The non-profit organization’s mission is to preserve the Hispanic heritage on the Treasure Coast. The members meet once a month to socialize, dine and dance. Some members and their friends play golf on Fridays after 11:00 A.M. at The Saints Golf Course in Port St. Lucie and bowl on Mondays after 5:30 at the Super Play Lanes in St. Lucie West.

2016 Fernando’s “Hole in-One”

Fernando Mejia made his first Hole-In-One of his career on Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at The Saints Golf Club in Port St. Lucie. Fernando aced the 114 yard-par 3, No. 16thhole using a # Pitching Wedge. He was part of the SACI group with Gus Migliore, Lou Arroyo and Bernard Jethroe.

Golf Tournament Vietnam Veterans 2021
The Spanish American Club, Inc. sponsored the 1st. Vietnam Veterans Golf Tournament

On Saturday, October 9th, some members of The Spanish American Club, Inc. participated on the Vietnam Veterans of America, Michael F. Bradley Chapter 566 at Gator Trace Golf Course in Port St. Lucie. The golf tournament was held at the Savanna Club Golf Course in Port St. Lucie.

Among the participants representing the club were Ray Guadalupe, Herman Santa, Guillermo Rodriguez, Otto Vega, Al Peña, Mike Bolaños, Iggy Fernandez, David Santiago, Dennis Schmidt, Ross Thompson, Norman Robinson and Jorge Crespo.

Herman Santa won the Seniors Longest Drive (Hole # 14) Thanks to all participants who went above and beyond for a good cause. All funds raised at the tournament to benefit the VVA’s continuing mission to help homeless Veterans in St. Lucie County.
Halloween 2021
SACI members celebrated Halloween

On October 30, 2021The Halloween Event was celebrated at the Disabled American Veteran (DAV) located at 1150 SW California Blvd., Port St. Lucie, Fl. 34953. What an event!! So many beautiful and interesting costumes. We danced the night away with the wonderful selections of music by DJ Ramiez. Judges had a difficult time deciding to select the best female and male costume. The judges’ choices were: Nereida Pellot and Jose Garcia. Congratulations to both.
