Scholarship 2020 (Solis)
The Spanish American Club, Inc. awards scholarship

Alicia Solis
The Spanish American Club, Inc. is proud to recognize one outstanding student selected to receive one of the six club’s 2020 scholarship awards. The recipient is Alicia Solis of Ft Pierce.
Alicia was born in Wellington, Florida. Her parents are Eduardo and Maria Solis from Mexico. She is now living with them in Port St. Lucie. She attended Lincoln Park Academy and this fall she will attend University of Florida. she will be majoring in Biology and planning to work in the medical field and help the Hispanic community.
This year scholarship committee Chair by Nancy Rozon and Co-chair by Pamela Peña Elizabeth Mejía and Herman Santa along with the board of directors Carlos Bonet, President; Al Feliciano, Vice President; Evelyn Carrillo, Secretary; Josephine Guadalupe, Treasurer; Vivian Megaro, Public Relations: Nancy Rozon, Director; Mary Figliola, Substitute Director did a magnificent job selecting the students and running the program smoothly. The committee selected the students for their achievements, trustworthiness, character, responsibility, fairness and academics.
The scholarship was established in 1992 for low-income students. Over the past 26 years, the club has awarded more than $35,000 in scholarships to 60 High School seniors of Martin and St. Lucie counties. The board raises money for the scholarships by having garage sales, 50/50 raffles at the monthly dance parties and committee events. The board also organizes other events such as picnics, cruises and garage sales. The committees organize events such as bowling, golf, billiard and dominoes tournaments.
The mission of the club is to promote friendship and solidarity among its members, neighbors and other non profit organizations of the Treasure Coast through cultural, social, civic, charity and sports activities to promote knowledge of the Spanish speaking countries, their geography, history, art and folklore.

Laura Barco
The Spanish American Club, Inc. is proud to recognize one outstanding student selected to receive one of the six club’s 2020 scholarship awards. The recipient is Laura Barco-Garcia of Port St. Lucie.
Laura was born in Stuart, Florida. Her parents are Ricardo Garcia and Maria Barco they were born in Mexico. She is now living with them in Port St. Lucie. She attended Lincoln Park Academy and this fall she will attend University of Central Florida. she will be majoring in Nursing and after graduating she is planning to return to the Treasure Coast to start her Nursing career.

Itzel Mendoza
The Spanish American Club, Inc. is proud to recognize one outstanding student selected to receive one of the six club’s 2020 scholarship awards. The recipient is Itzel Mendoza of Ft. Pierce.
Itzel was born in Rio Verde, San Luis Potosí, México. Her parents are Bartolo Mendoza Dorado. He was born in Arroyo Seco, Querétaro, México. Her mother Ma. Del Socorro Segura Loredo. She was born in Rio Verde, San Luis Potosí, México. She is now living with her parents in Ft. Pierce. Itzel attended Ft. Pierce Central High School and this fall she will finish her Associates Degree at Indian River State College this summer before moving to Florida Atlantic University. she will be majoring in Psychology, but plan to also complete another major in Early Childhood education if possible.

Natalie Becerra
Natalie Becerra was born in Miami, Florida. Her parents are Melly Diaz and Jairo Becerra from Bogota, Cundinamarca, Colombia. She is now living with her mother in Port St. Lucie. Natalie attended Centennial High School. This fall she will continue her higher education in Nursing Program at Indian River State College. She plans to become a Certified Nurse Midwife and travel as a Nurse.

Mother’s 2020
Mother’s Day Dance

Saturday May 30, 2020 marked our return to The Spanish American Club, Inc’s return of our monthly activities. It was a day of anxiety and joy. The participation was only 31 members and guests. But the camaraderie, music and food were excellent. Masks were available for those that did not have one and so was an ample supply of hand sanitizer. The dance area was made as ample as possible to minimize too close a contact between dancers. This event was definitely not what we are used to in our club, but it was enjoyed by all. The Elk’s staff provided the safe environment, an excellent meal and the cooperation from our participants was also excellent.
It is very understandable why most of you did not wish to participate. But, I am also aware that many of you are participating in other activities that place you in the same compromising situations. When you go to supermarkets, home goods stores and even in open air or indoor restaurants, where no one wears a mask or gloves. Regardless, this pandemic is something that should not be taken lightly and I urge all of you to make your own personal decisions that will keep you and your families safe.
Our next event will be the Father’s day Dance, which is scheduled for June 27, 2020. The men in our club will have their shot at a free meal. All other members will be $20 and guests $25. More information will be sent out soon. If we get a substantial amount of participant we will hire DJ Jose Ramirez, if not I will again be the DJ so as to save $250. This will help keep the cost of the event to a minimum. Thank you and above all, “STAY SAFE”. Carlos A. Bonet

Cena/ Baile de las Madres
El sábado 30 de mayo de 2020 marcó nuestro regreso a The Spanish American Club, Inc. de nuestras actividades mensuales. Fue un día de ansiedad y alegría. La participación fue de sólo 31 miembros e invitados. Pero la camaradería, la música y la comida eran excelentes. Las máscaras estaban disponibles para aquellos que no tenían uno y por lo tanto era una amplia oferta de desinfectante de manos. El área de baile se hizo lo más amplia posible para minimizar demasiado cerca un contacto entre los bailarines. Este evento definitivamente no fue lo que estamos acostumbrados en nuestro club, pero fue disfrutado por todos. El personal del Elk proporcionó el ambiente seguro, una excelente comida y la cooperación de nuestros participantes también fue excelente.
Es muy comprensible por qué la mayoría de ustedes no desearon participar. Pero también soy consciente de que muchos de ustedes están participando en otras actividades que los colocan en las mismas situaciones comprometedoras. Cuando vas a supermercados, tiendas de artículos para el hogar e incluso en restaurantes al aire libre o en el interior, donde nadie usa máscara o guantes. A pesar de todo, esta pandemia es algo que no debe tomarse a la ligera y los insto a todos a tomar sus propias decisiones personales que los mantengan a usted y a sus familias a salvo.
Nuestro próximo evento será el Baile del Día del Padre, que está programado para el 27 de junio de 2020. Los hombres de nuestro club tendrán su oportunidad de una comida gratis. Todos los demás miembros serán $20 y los invitados $25. Más información será enviada pronto.
