Spanish American Club, Inc. awards scholarship

Matias Campora SAM_1880The Spanish American Club, Inc. is proud to recognize one outstanding student selected to receive the club’s 2015 scholarship award. The recipients is Matias Nicolas Campora.

Matias was born in Miami Florida. His parents, Carlos Campora and Fabiana Rodriguez were born in Montevideo, Uruguay. They are now living in Port St. Lucie. Matias is attending Lincoln Park Academy High school. He will attend University of Central Floirda. He will major in Electrical Engineering and would like to pursue a career as an Engineer.

The scholarship committee selected the students for their achievements, trustworthiness, character, responsibility, fairness, caring and academics. The following members are part of the board of directors: Carlos Bonet, president; Nancy Rozon, vice president; Melissa Bonet, secretary; Ron Bryson, treasurer; Tony Colón, public relations; Fe Vallderuten, director; and Al Feliciano, substitute. The following members are part of the scholarship committee: Herman Santa (Chair), Nancy Rozon, Fe Valderuten and Melissa Bonet, co-chairs.

The scholarship was established in 1992 for Hispanic students. Over the past 23 years, the club has awarded more than $22,000 in scholarships to the Hispanic seniors of Martin and St. Lucie counties. The board raises money for the scholarships by having monthly dance parties and organizes other events such as picnics, cruises, bowling, golf and dominoes tournaments.
