The Spanish American Club, Inc. scholarship available to Martin and St. Lucie counties High School Seniors

The Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) scholarship is available to graduating seniors who live in Martin and St. Lucie counties. The scholarship is administered by the Board of Directors and the Scholarship Committee of The Spanish American club, Inc.
This year’s scholarship committee: Chaired by Nancy Rozon and Co-chaired by Elizabeth Mejia, Pamela Peña and Herman Santa, in conjunction with the Board of Directors, will continue selecting the students and running the program smoothly. The committee selects the students for their academic achievements,financial needs, trustworthiness, character, responsibility, and fairness.
The scholarships are awarded based on financial need and a GPA of 3.0 or better. Letters of recommendation on behalf of applicants are accepted. The recipients will be selected after a one-on-one interview by The Spanish American Club, Inc. Scholarship Committee.
Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements for consideration: (1) Martin or St. Lucie county senior. (2) Resident of either county. (3) Copy of the original transcript from the high school. (4) Financial statement.
Eligible students must submit the application by Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2019. Applications are available from Martin and St. Lucie Counties Guidance Counselors. GENERAL INFORMATION: The Spanish American Club, Inc. is a non-profit Organization whose main goals are to promote friendship and solidarity among its members and other institutions, through charitable , cultural, civic and social activities , and to promote the knowledge of the Spanish speaking countries, geography, history, art, culture and folklore. The Spanish American Club, Inc. Scholarship Program is geared for Hispanic Seniors of Martin & St. Lucie counties Public High Schools.
SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNTS: One scholarship of One Thousand dollars ($1000.00), Five hundred ($500) to as many students as our fund raising allows.
SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION: The Spanish American Club, Inc. scholarship application can be obtained and filed at the guidance counselor’s office every year before February 29. The guidance department shall forward the application and transcripts of the student to the scholarship committee of The Spanish American Club, Inc. for final review. Selected applicants will be contacted for an interview with the Committee. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE STUDENT TO INSURE THAT ALL DEADLINES ARE MET.
BASIS FOR SELECTION: (1) Fill out the application from the Spanish American Club, Inc. (2) Copy of original transcript from the High School signed by the Guidance counselor. (3) Letters of recommendation from the Guidance counselor or teacher. (3) Must be a senior student from Martin or St. Lucie counties public schools. (4) Resident of either county. (5) Demonstrated financial need and (5)“3.” or better grade-point average (GPA).
STUDENT QUALIFICATIONS: (1) The student must be of Hispanic heritage. (2) In case of equal qualifications between two students, the applicant with lesser financial resources shall be awarded the scholarship.
METHOD OF PAYMENT: Check will be sent by mail to the scholarship foundation program of the College or University.
SELECTION OF WINNER: The selection of the scholarship recipient will be made by the scholarship committee of the Spanish American Club, Inc. after interview with selected applicants.
SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: Prior to scholarship award, student selected for scholarship must show proof of acceptance for enrollment to attend any College or University. The student must send verification of enrollment, class schedule, ID #, etc.

The Spanish American Club, Inc. members celebrate their 1st party of the year 2020

On Saturday, January 25, members and supporters of The Spanish American Club, Inc. “SACI” gathered to celebrate the 1 st dance of the year of the club at The Elks Lodge 2658, Port Saint Lucie, FL.

The event was sponsored by the recently elected new board composed of Carlos Bonet-President; Al Feliciano–Vice President; Evelyn Carrillo-Secretary, Josie Guadalupe-Treasurer; Vivian Megaro– Public Relations; Nancy Rozon– Director(Vocal), and Mary Figliola- Substitute Director.

During a break, D. J. José Ramírez played a birthday song to celebrate the birthdays of the month of January. Among the present were: Félix Asencio, Alfredo Medina, Ana Rodriguez, Edward Nappo, Nereida Pellot, Ray Matias, Xiomara Guanill, Sonia Echevarría, Ana M. Gómez, Walter Gómez andEvie Cardona.

A big thanks to Al and Virginia Feliciano for the donation of a gift basket to be raffled for our aid to Puerto Rico effort.. Proceeds ($200) of the gift basket to be donated to the victims of the Puerto Rico’s earthquake. Many thanks to Walter Gómez and Otto Vega for their generosity in the donation of their winnings of the 50/50 ($ 55 and $25 respectively) to ourscholarship program. Finally, thanks to the members that donated the door prizes, bought tickets for the raffles and helped with the event
Throughout the year, the members meet the last Saturday of each month to raise funds,socialize, dine and dance. The non-profit organization’s mission is to preserve the Hispanic heritage on the Treasure Coast and to unify Hispanics from the Treasure Coast. The group also gives scholarships to local High School senior students from Martin and St. Lucie counties. In November the members give food baskets during Thanksgiving week tounderprivileged families and in December they collect Christmas toys for needy children for Martin and St. Lucie counties.

The “Sweet Heart Dinner Dance” on Saturday, February 29 will be held at the same location from 6:00 PM to 11:00 P.M. Donations will be $20.00 for members and $25.00 for their guests. Socios del Spanish American Club Celebran primer fiestón del año

La actividad se llevó a cabo el sábado 25 de enero en el salón de bailes del Elks Lodge # 2658, Port Saint Lucie, FL. El elegante salón se vistió de celebración para recibir a los socios dispuestos a cenar, bailar, celebrar cumpleaños, disfrutar de las rifas y compartir con sus amigos hasta las 11 de la noche.
La fiesta comenzó a las 6 de la tarde con un coctél y luego los socios desfrutaron de una deliciosa cena. Despúes el D.J. José Ramírez empezó a tocar música moderna desde Line Dance, salsa, bachata, cumbia, merengue y hasta boleros. En un receso se rifaron los premios, la canasta, el “Fifity Fifty y se celebraron los cumpleaños de los socios del mes de enero.
Celebrando los cumpleaños estaban Félix Asencio, Alfredo Medina, Ana Rodriguez, Edward Nappo, Nereida Pellot, Ray Matias, Xiomara Guanill, Sonia Echevarría, Ana M. Gómez, Walter Gómez yEvie Cardona. Los ganadores de los premios fueron David Ramos, Millie Asencio, Karen Diamond, Gloria Ramírez y Félix Asencio. Los de los 50/50 fueron Otto Vega, Isa Bryson y Walter Gómez. La ganadora de la canasta fue Lucy Santa.
Fue una noche espectacular e inolvidable. Le agradecemos a Al y su esposa Virginia Feliciano por la donación de la linda canasta la cual las ganacias irán los damnificados del terremoto en Puerto Rico. No podemos olvidar a Walter Gómez y Otto Vega por su generosidad de las doncaiones del 50/50 a la beca del club y finalmente queremos darle las gracias a los socios que donaron los premios, compraron los boletos para las rifas y ayudaron con el evento.
El próximo evento “Sweet Heart Dinner Dance” está planeado para el sábado 29 de febrero en el mismo local. Donación $20.00 para los socios y $25.00 para los invitados. The Spanish American Club, Inc. elects new board for fiscal year 2020

The Annual General Assembly meeting of The Spanish American Club, Inc. was held on Sunday, January 12, at The Elks Lodge 2658, Port Saint Lucie. The afternoon’s agenda proceeded with a call to order by President Carlos Bonet. He welcomed the members to this year’s assembly.
SACI is the area’s oldest non profit social Hispanic organization, established in 1992. The main goals of the corporation is to promote friendship and solidarity among its members and other non profit corporations, through charitable, social, cultural and civic activities and to promote the knowledge of the Spanish-speaking countries’ geography, history, art, culture and folklore.
Much of The Spanish American Club, Inc.’s success derives from strong volunteer leadership. For more than 27 years, The Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) has relied on the guidance and expertise of Hispanic leaders to make a positive impact in Martin and St. Lucie Counties through fundraising, volunteerism and character-building.
Next event of the club has been scheduled for Saturday, January, 25 “Winter Wonderland”, at The Elks Lodge 2658 at 2290 SE Lennard Road, Port Saint Lucie, FL. 34952. Reservations are required. Exitosa fué la Asamblea General Anual del Spanish American Club, Inc. celebrada el domingo 12 de enero en el Elks Lodge 2658, en la ciudad de Port St. Lucie. Al empezar la asamblea, el presidente del club, Carlos Bonet hizo un corto discurso acreditando a su directiva y a los comités por su magnifica labor que hicieron durante el año pasado. La nueva Junta Directiva se compone de los siguientes socios: Carlos Bonet, Presidente; Al Feliciano, Vice Presidente; Evelyn Delgado, Secretaria; Josie Guadalupe; Tesorera; Vivian Megaro, Relaciones Públicas; Nancy Rozon, Vocal y Mary Figliola, Substituta.
Una vez más la camaradería que distingue a los socios se puso de manifiesto, no solo durante la reunión, sino tambíen durante toda la tarde. Sin duda alguna, fue una asamblea de gran exito. El club es una organización sin fines lucrativos compuesta por socios residentes de los condados de Martín y St. Lucie que se dedican a preservar y promover la herencia hispana en la Costa del Tesoro.
La Corporación se creó con los siguientes propósitos: Promover la amistad y solidaridad entre los socios y otras instituciones a través de actividades sociales, culturales, cívicas y deportivas. El club se ha destacado por su desinteresada contribución a la comunidad hispana ofreciendo becas a estudiantes hispanos, donando canastas con alimentos a familias de bajos ingresos en el día de Acción de Gracias y donando juguetes navideños a niños de familias de bajos recursos económicos entre otros.
La próxima actividad del club está planeada para el sábado 25 de enero en el mismo local para celebrar el primer evento del año con cena y baile. Reservaciones son requeridas. The Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) scholarship is available to graduating seniors who live in Martin and St. Lucie counties. The scholarship is administered by the Spanish American club, Inc. Scholarship Committee. This year new board of directors are: Mary Figliola, President; Kathy Rivera, Vice President; Nancy Rozon, Secretary; Nora Candelario, Treasurer and Karen Diamond. The scholarship committee are: Herman Santa, Director; Nancy Rozon and Isa Bryson, Co-Chairs. The SACI scholarship was established in 1994 for low-income Hispanic students. More than $20,000 has been awarded to local students. Thirty-four high school seniors from Martin and St. Lucie counties have benefited from the scholarships.
The scholarships are awarded based on career interest academic achievement, financial need and other criteria. Students must maintain a 3.0 grade point average (GPA).
Applicants must write a paragraph in Spanish the day of the interview, on why they feel they should be considered for the scholarship. Letters of recommendation are accepted. Two students will be selected ($750 each) after one-on-one interview by the Spanish American Club, Inc. Scholarship Committee.
