Spanish American Club celebrates end of the year

The Spanish American Club, Inc. held its annual Holiday Party on Saturday, Dec. 27 at The Sons of Italy Lodge 2594 in Port St. Lucie.  It was an exciting evening where many familiar faces and some new ones came together to enjoy the “End of the Year Dinner Dance Gala”. The party started with a cocktail then the master of ceremonies and president of the club, Carlos Bonet, welcomed everyone and gave an update of the status of the club. He also had all the birthday members of the month of December come up front while the D.J. played the “Happy Birthday” song for them. Among the birthday members that were present were: Mary Figliola, Ursula Carcel, Zipy Cartagena, Carlos López, Virginia Feliciano, Frank Megaro, Nilda Betancourt, Jimmy Rivera, Kathy Rivera, Gustavo Santa and Wanda Oquendo.

Fallowing the birthday celebration the members and their guests enjoyed a delicious buffet catered by Mandi’s Café and Catering. The meal consisted of beef stroganoff, chicken marsala, wild rice, string beans, green salad, dessert and coffee. Everyone enjoyed our entertainer D.J. José Ramírez who as always did a fantastic job singing and playing his repertoire of songs from back in our day to line dancing and Latin salsa music until late in the evening.

During a break the board held the drawings for the door prizes and the 50/50. The 50/50 split winners were: Dr. Joe Wasdovich, Vivian Megaro and Joe Castro. Door prize winners were: Lucero Zepeda, Martina Mercedes, Millie Asencio, Norma Castro, Ray Guadalupe, Virginia González and Jimmy Rojas. We would like to extend a special thank you to our Mayor Gregory Oravec and his lovely wife Tonya Oravec for taking out some time from their busy schedule to celebrate with us, our end of the year Holiday Dance. Event coordinators were our president Carlos Bonet and his board members Tony Colón, Ron Bryson, Al Feliciano, Melissa Bonet, Fe Vall de Ruten and Nancy Rozon who did a wonderful job planning a memorable evening that was enjoyed by all.

The club was incorporated in 1992 as a non profit organization, since then it has grown from 18 to approximately 140 active members. The club was the first social, civic and sport club in the area, its members come from all over the world such as Argentina, Canada, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico, Panamá, Perú, Puerto Rico, Spain, Venezuela and of course, USA to mention e few.

Next event of the club has been scheduled for Saturday, January, 10, 2015, to elect a new board of directors at the Disabled American Veterans Club in Port St. Lucie. Reservations are required. Socios del Spanish American Club Celebran último fiestón del año

Los Socios del Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) festejaron de lo lindo el sábado 27 de didiembre en el último baile del año de la Organización.  La actividad se llevó a cabo en el “Sons of Italy en Port St. Lucie.  El salón estaba elegantemente decorado para recibir a los socios dispuestos a bailar y disfrutar de una deliciosa cena navideña.  Después de la cena y las rifas nuestro D.J. José Ramírez le tocó una canción de cumpleaños a los socios que estaban celebrando sus cumpleaños en el mes de diciembre. Entre ellos estaban: Mary Figliola, Ursula Carcel, Zipy Cartagena, Carlos López, Virginia Feliciano, Frank Megaro, Nilda Betancourt, Jimmy Rivera, Kathy Rivera, Gustavo Santa y Wanda Oquendo.

Los ganadores de las rifas fueron: Dr. Joe Wasdovich, Vivian Megaro, Joe Castro, Lucero Zepeda, Martina Mercedes, Millie Asencio, Norma Castro, Ray Guadalupe, Virginia González y Jimmy Rojas.  Gracias a la directiva por planear la fiesta y a los socios e invitados por donar los premios para las rifas. También queremos agradecer a nuestro nuevo alcalde Gregory Oravec y a su esposa Tonya por asistir y celebrar con nosotros la fiesta navideña.

La próxima actividad del club está planeada para el sábado 10 de enero en el Disabled American Veterans Club en Port St. Lucie. Reservaciones son requeridas.
