18th Anniversary of the club: A wonderful evening

By Herman Santa

On Saturday, August 28, 2010, members and supporters of the Spanish American Club, Inc. gathered to celebrate the 18th Anniversary of the club at a private clubhouse in Ft. Pierce.  The annual dinner-dance was held as a fundraising event for the scholarship fund of the club.   Our sponsor was Cindy Jeanes from Party Lite who set up a table to sell her products.  The club will receive 50% of all sells for our scholarship.  This beautiful affair was chaired by Mary Figliola, director in coordination with the president, Jimmy Rivera, and board members led by Nancy Rozon, Ron Bryson and Al Feliciano.

D. J. Adan Mendoza from Mendoza Sound entertained the guests which everyone enjoyed dancing to the end.  Later in the evening, the D.J. played a birthday song to celebrated the birthdays of Linda Manzanares, Juan Piñeiro, Lionel Roman and Francesca Romero.  There were some door prizes, raffles drawing and a hat dance contest to top off the event.  Door Prize winners were: Isa Bryson, Francesca Romero, Maria Lopez and Andrea Lopez.  Gladys Piñeiro won the “Hat Dance” contest and Fe Vallderuten the “50/50” raffle.

The non-profit organization’s mission is to preserve the Hispanic heritage on the Treasure Coast and to unionize Hispanics from the Treasure Coast.  Throughout the year, the members meet once a month to socialize, dine and dance.  The group also gives 2 scholarships to local students, Thanksgiving food certificates and Christmas toys to children of low income families.  Mark your calendars for the next activities scheduled for September 18th (50’s party), October 30th (Halloween Party and December 18th (Christmas Party!
