Spanish American Club celebrates 23rd Anniversary

The 23rd anniversary dinner dance party hosted by The Spanish American Club, Inc. was celebrated on Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) hall in Port St. Lucie.

Members and their guests enjoyed an evening of food, raffles and dancing. The dinner consisted of Salad, Fried chicken, Sausage with peppers and onions, baked ziti and rolls. Coffee and birthday cake were also provided. Master of ceremonies and president of the club, Carlos Bonet, welcomed everyone to the party and gave an update of the status of the club and thanked every one of them for their continued support.

Following the president’s update, the board conducted the raffles and celebrated the birthdays of the month of August and September while entertainer D.J. José Ramírez played a Happy Birthday song for them, among them present were:Maria Aguerro, Charlie Rodriguez, Augusto Rodriguez, Angel Pellot, Joe Abbate, Juan Piñeiro, Maite Peterson, Linda Manzanares, Rossana Parra, Leo Roman, Eliecer Torres, Karen Diamond and José Ramirez. Door prize winners were: Gilberto Serri and Ivonne Bonet. 50/50 winners: Miriam Acurero and Al Manzanares.

After the birthday celebration and raffle drawings, everyone enjoyed the entertainment of D.J. José Ramírez with his repertoire of songs he sang and played. Big thanks to the board who worked very hard to make the annual event a big success and to our members for their continued support and camaraderie. Finally, many thanks to the members who helped with the decorations and cooked the food.

The mission of the club is to promote friendship and solidarity among its members, neighbors and other institutions of the Treasure Coast through cultural, social and civic activities to promote knowledge of the Spanish speaking countries, their geography, history, art and folklore. The club has grown from 18 members in 1992 to 150 members; Over $22,000 in scholarships have been awarded to Hispanic students in Martin and St. Lucie counties; 36 Hispanic students from many different countries have been awarded.

The board and the committees extends its sincere appreciation to the members who made donations and to the all the sponsors for the contributions and support. Next events of the club are as follows: Halloween party on Saturday, Oct. 31; Thanksgiving party on Nov. 28; and the Holiday dance on Saturday, Dec. 26.  Reservations are required. Prácticas de golf 2004

Algunos de los socios del “Spanish American Club, Inc.”  están practicando los domingos después del mediodía en Savanna Club Country Club en Port St. Lucie y algunas veces en Pine Lake Country Club en Jensen Beach.

Con el fin de promover la amistad y armonía entre los socios, los socios seguirán practicando hasta que llegue el día del torneo de golf que se está planeando para el otoño.  Para poder hacer el torneo, se necesitan por lo menos 20 jugadores.

Primera beca del “Spanish American Club, Inc.”

El pasado 23 de julio, los socios del “Spanish American Club, Inc.” se reunieron para hacer entrega de la beca de $500 al joven Armando Gil.

Todos tuvimos el placer de charlar con Armando y comprobar lo bien merecedor que es de la beca.  La renión fue en casa de nuestro presidenete Sr. Tomás González y su querida esposa Cathy que ofreció su casa muy gentilmente, todos los socios llevaron un plato de su preferencia y celebraron con baile y música hasta entrada la noche.  Se la pasaron muy contentos y también se tuvo oportunidad de presentar a los socios nuevos que se han intergrado a éste grupo tan amistoso y alegre del “Spanish American Club, Inc.”Scholarship 1994
