The Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) awards scholarships

Four extraordinary graduating seniors from St. Lucie County public High Schools were recently recognized as this year’s Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI). This year’s winners were Alexis Weist, Cecilia E. Calderon, India M. Crosske and Johana Hernandez

This year scholarship committee Chair Nancy Rozon and Co-chairs Elizabeth Mejía did a magnificent job selecting the students and running the program smoothly. This year The Spanish American Club, Inc. board of directors are: Ruben Aleman; president, Nancy Rozon; vice president, Luis Carrillo; treasurer, Ray Guadalupe; public relations, Carlos Mejía; director and Charlie Quiles; Substitute director.

Over the past 26 years, the club has awarded more than $31,000 in scholarships to 48 Hispanic seniors of Martin and St. Lucie counties.  The scholarship is based on need and a proven record of academic excellence.

SACI was the first Hispanic social, civic and sport club to award scholarships to Hispanic seniors from Martin and St. Lucie Counties public High Schools. Today, the nonprofit club continues to embrace diversity and give all members of the community an equal chance to pursue their dreams.

The mission of the club is to promote friendship and solidarity among its members, neighbors and other non profit organizations of the Treasure Coast through cultural, social, civic, charity and sports activities to promote knowledge of the Spanish speaking countries, their geography, history, art and folklore.

Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) otorga 4 becas a estudiantes

El Comité de Becas y la Junta de Directores del Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) seleccionó a cuatro estudiantes del área. Las becas honran a los estudiantes hispanos que se distinguen por sus talentos académicos en el último año en las Escuelas Superiores de los Condados de Martin y St. Lucie.  Desde su fundación en 1992, el club ha otorgado becas a 48 estudiantes. Los ganadores este año son: Alexis Weist, Cecilia E. Calderon, India M. Crosske y Johana Hernandez.

La mamá de Alexis es de nacionalidad estadounidense y su papá es nativo de Ecuador y viven en la ciudad de Port Saint Lucie. Alexis se graduó de St.Lucie West Centennial High School y se registró en Indian River State College para ustudiar medicina.

Cecilia Evette Calderon nació en El Salvador. Los padres son también del El Salvador y ahora viven en la ciudad de Port Saint Lucie. Cecilia se graduó de St. Lucie High School. y piensar estudiar cosmetología.

India May Crosske nació en New York pero se crió en Port Saint Lucie. Sus padres también son de New York. Ella se graduó de Saint Lucie West Centennial High school y estudiará enfermería en Indian River State College. La meta de ella es ser Nurse Practitioner y algún dia tener su propio consultorio.

Johana nació en La Habana, Cuba. Su mamá también es de Cuba y ahora viven en Port Saint Lucie. Ella se graduó de Port St. Lucie High School y piensa estudiar Administración de Negocios en Indian River State College.

Este año la Junta Directiva del club la integran Rubén Alemán; Presidente, Nancy Rozón Vice presidente, Luis Carrillo; Tesorero, Ray Guadalupe; Relaciones Públicas, Carlos Mejía; Vocal y Charlie Quiles; Director Substituto. El comité de becas está compuesto por Nancy Rozon; Directora y Elizabeth Mejía.

El Club es una corporación con fines no lucrativos fundada en el 1992 para conservar y promover la cultura hispana en la Costa del Tesoro.  El objetivo principal es promover el intercambio cultural, de idioma, geografía, costumbres, historia, arte y folklore de los paises de habla hispana.

Próxima actividad del club será el sábado 28 de julio para celebrar el “Día de Urgullo Internacional”. Reservación es requerida.
