Spanish American Club, Inc. Mother’s Day Dinner Dance

By Herman Santa/Carlos Bonet

The Spanish American Club, Inc. hosted its traditional Mother’s Day Dinner Dance on Saturday, May 25 at the Disabled American Veterans Club in Port St. Lucie.  The event started with our master of ceremonies Carlos Bonet welcoming everyone to the event and gave an update of the status of the club and the next events of the of club. A moment of silence was observed for the members that are not longer with us and for the veteran.

Following the president’s speech the members and their guests enjoyed a delicious Latin buffet. The meal consisted of salad, bread, pulled pork, stew chicken, yucca, red beans, white rice, yellow rice with pigeon peas, dessert and coffee.  After the dinner, the DJ played a Mother’s Day song and a Happy Birthday song for members and their guests who were celebrating their birthdays this month, among them were: Eliecer Torres, Ligia Payne, Isa Bryson, Rubén Alemán, Blanca Stella Páez , Ana María Tarani, Belén Medina, Al Manzanares and Virginia González.

50/50 raffle winners were: Doris James, Norma Arroyo and Javier Andrade. Door prize winners were: Nereida Pellot, Ana Rodríguez, Judy Carrasquillo, Cookie Santiago, Agusto Rodríguez and Javier Andrade.  A big “Thank You” to the following members: Virginia and Rosendo Gonzalez, Lionel and Mercedes Roman, Dick and Karen Diamond, Angel and Nereida Pellot, Augusto Rodriguez, Gilbert Ferri, Carlos Mejia, Domingo Sanchez, Virginia Feliciano, Pamela Peña. Without your help these events would be overwhelming and a lot of hard work for our board of directors.

Volunteers are key to all successful organizations. Your example is a tribute to our club.  I hope I got everyone, but if I haven’t acknowledged you its because so much was going on. Your continued support for our scholarship program under the direction of Nancy Rozon, with Pamela Pena, Elizabeth Mejia and Maria McCutcheon is excellent. At our next event we will try to have all of this years scholarship recipients available for you to meet. Your generosity to our young servers also was amazing. I want to give special thanks to Board members, Al Feliciano, Evelyn Carrillo, Josie Guadalupe, Nancy Rozon, Mary Figliola and Vivian Megaro. Vivian also donated the roses that were given to each female participant. I am especially grateful for our cooks, Yvonne Bonet, Vivian Megaro, Melissa Sanchez and Bianca DeJesus. Food was great.

Thank you all that were able to participate at yesterdays Mothers Day Event. I appreciate all the help that was given by various members and guests. Augusto Rodriguez, Gilbert Ferri, Carlos Mejia, Domingo Sanchez, Lionel and Mercedes Roman, Dick and Karen Diamond, Virginia Feliciano, Pamela Pena, Angel and Nereida Pellot.
