The Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) awards scholarships

Six extraordinary graduating seniors from St. Lucie County public High Schools were recently recognized at this year’s Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI). This year’s recipients were Laura Mejia, Ruby Martinez, Catherine Ferreira, Alejandra Lopez, Marilyn Rancel and Jaisen R. Gonzalez.

Laura Mejia
Laura Mejia was born in Texas. Her parents were born in Antioquia, Colombia and now she is living with her mother Adriana P. Molina in Ft. Pierce. Laura attends Fort Pierce Central High School. This fall she will continue her studies and begin the bachelor’s program at Indian River State College. She plans to major in Business Administration and her biggest goal is to one day open her own business and give back to the community.

Ruby Martinez
Ruby Martinez was born in Ft. Pierce. Her parents Rodolfo and Maria Martinez were born in Mexico and now they are living in Ft. Pierce. Ruby attended Fort Pierce Central High School. This fall she will be majoring in Pre Dental and then afterwards she will apply into Dental Hygiene at Indian River State College.

Catherine Ferreira
Catherine Ferreira was born in Venezuela. Her parents Jesus Ferreira and Hailing Ramos were born in Venezuela. She is now living with her parents in Ft. Pierce. Catherine attended Fort Pierce Central High School. This fall she will continue her Associate Degree in Indian River State College, then will transfer to Embry Riddle Aerospace University in Daytona Beach. She will be majoring in Aerospace Engineering and Astronomy. She would like to work with Boeing or Space X and get into the research field.

Marilyn Rancel
Marilyn Rancel was born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico. Her father Guiomar Rancel was born in Puerto Rico and her mother Dora Gallego was born in Colombia. Marilyn is now living with her parents in Port St. Lucie. Marilyn graduated from St. Lucie Centennial High School. This fall she will continue her education in Nursing at Indian River State College and become a Nurse. She would like to start her own business after graduating from Nursing school.

Alejandra Lopez
Alejandra Lopez was born in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico. Her mother Marta de la Cruz was born in Mexico. She is now living with her mother in Ft. Pierce. Alejandra attended Ft. Pierce Central High School. This fall she will attend Indian River State College. She will be majoring in Criminal Justice and become a Police Officer. After graduating she will be working in her community and will continue her education to help stop crime around the world.

Jaisen Gonzalez
Jaisen was born in Bronx, New York. His father Richard and his mother Jessica were born in Puerto Rico. He is now living with her parents in Pt. St. Lucie. Jaisen attended St. Lucie Centennial High School. This fall he will attend University of Central Florida for his Associate Degree. He would like to transfer to the Florida State University to complete his Criminology Degree and then would attend Quantico to become an FBI agent for Behavioral Analysis.
This year scholarship committee Chair by Nancy Rozon and Co-chair by Elizabeth Mejia, María McCutheon and Pamela Peña along with the board of directors Carlos Bonet, President; Al Feliciano, Vice President; Evelyn Carrillo, Secretary; Josephine Guadalupe, Treasurer; Vivian Megaro, Public Relations Director: Nancy Rozon, Vocal Director; Mary Figliola, Substitute Director did a great job selecting students from different countries.
Over the past 26 years, the club has awarded more than $36,000 in scholarships to 54 seniors of Martin and St. Lucie counties. SACI was the first Hispanic social, civic and sport club to award scholarships to Hispanic seniors from Martin and St. Lucie Counties public High Schools. Today, the nonprofit club continues to embrace diversity and give all members of the community an equal chance to pursue their dreams.
The mission of the club is to promote friendship and solidarity among its members, neighbors and other institutions of the Treasure Coast through charitable, cultural, social and civic activities to promote knowledge. La Junta de Directores del Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) seleccionó a seis estudiantes hispanos del condado de St. Lucie. Las becas honran a los estudiantes hispanos que se distinguen por sus talentos académicos en el último año en las Escuelas Superiores de los Condados de Martín y St. Lucie.
Desde su fundación en 1992, el club ha otorgado becas a 54 estudiantes con un total de más de $36,000. Los recipientes este año son: Laura Mejia ,Ruby Martinez, Catherine Ferreira, Marilyn Rancel, Alejandra Lopez y Jaisen Gonzalez.
Laura Mejia nació en Texas. Su mamá nació en Antioquia, Colombia y ahora vive con su mamá Adriana P. Molina in Ft. Pierce. Laura se graduó de Fort Pierce Central High School. Este otoño ella planea continuar sus estudios en el Indian River State College. Laura piensa graduarse en Administracion de negocios y su meta es algún dia abrir su propio negocio y aportar a la comunidad hispana en el área.
Ruby Martinez nació en Fort Pierce. Los padres de Ruby Rodolfo y María Martinez nacieron en México y ahora viven en Ft. Pierce. Ruby se graduó de Fort Pierce Central High School. Este otoño ella piensa continuar sus estudios en Pre Dental y después Dental Hygiene en Indian River State College.
Catherine Ferreira nació en Venezuela. Los padres de Catherine Jesus Ferreira y Hailing Ramos nacieron en Venezuela. Ellos ahora viven en Ft. Pierce. Catherine se graduó de Fort Pierce Central High School. Este otoño ella piensa continuar sus estudios “Associate Degree” en Indian River State College y después piensa continuar sus estudios en Embry Riddle Aerospace University en Daytona Beach. Ella estudiará Ingeniería Aerospacial y Astronomía. Despué que se gradue le gustaría trabajar para Boeing o Space X en el campo de research field.
