Annual Golf Tournament del SACI 2007 at Savanna Club

By Herman Santa

If you are passionate about golf, come and play with the members for a good cause! The “Spanish American Club, Inc.” (SACI), a nonprofit organization that brings together the club’s golfers, will be celebrating this year its “2nd Golf Practice Tournament.” This tournament is held with the intention of contributing financially to the noble cause that has been supporting scholarships for Hispanic students for many years.

This tournament features a format of 20 games per golfer during the season. One game per week at different golf courses in the area. In each game, the golfer is allowed to use a “mulligan” for every 9 holes. At the end of the season, if the golfer has played 20 games, the “handicap” of each player will be determined. There will be trophies for the following categories: “Most Birdies,” “Most Pars,” “Least Putts,” “Best Overall Scores,” “Best Improved,” and “MVP” (Most Valuable Player). If you are passionate about golf, come and play with the members for a good cause; you could win trophies, make new friends, and enjoy good camaraderie. The registration fee per player is $20.

Do you like golf?

By Herman Santa

The members and friends of the Spanish American Club, Inc.  (SACI) continue to play golf at The Saints in Port St. Lucie every Friday after 11:00 A.M.   There are many golfers that are participating in the “Try Outs” since the group was formed in January.  They will continue to play golf until every one reaches 20 games to establish the “handicap” of each player.

The goal of the group is to have a Golf Tournament at the end of the summer to raise funds for the scholarship.   This activity of the club has been appreciated for those members of the club that like golf.

Nick Arnell and Geokazta Zurita conquer the titles of the 2nd Annual Bowling Tournament of SACI

By Herman Santa

The “Spanish American Club, Inc.” held its 2nd Annual Bowling Tournament at the “St. Lucie Lanes” bowling alley on Saturday, November 11, 2006. Nick Arnell dominated the men’s competition with a total of 597 pins over three games (an average of 199), earning the “Diamond” medal. I secured the “Emerald” prize by knocking down 424 pins (141), Juan Carlos Vega took the “Ruby” with 417 pins (139), Xavier Alejandro Zurita won the “Sapphire” with 349 pins (116), Dr. Enrique Ospina finished with 317 (105), and Fauto Fraga placed sixth with 259 (086 average). In the women’s competition, Geokazta Zurita came in 1st place, winning the “Diamond” medal with 241 pins knocked down (80 average).

During the trophy presentation, John Lugo, manager of the bowling alley, received on behalf of Christine Vitolo, the owner of the bowling alley, this distinction, thanking for the recognition and stating that the owner of the bowling alley will continue her commitment to the club to support the annual tournaments aimed at raising funds for outstanding Hispanic students. We did not reach the goal we had planned compared to last year, but I am very pleased that this year we were able to raise a “Chavitos” for the scholarship. This achievement would not have been possible without the support received from our sponsors; Christine Vitolo of “St. Lucie Lanes,” Rae Ann Ospina of “Premier Service Mortgage,” Astrid Mariotti of “Arbonne International,” Juan Carlos Vega of “La Voz,” and Carlos David Rámirez of “Latin News.” Finally, thanks to all the participants who were present for such an important cause, which is the education of our Hispanic students.

“Get Together” Primer from 2007 at the Abbott residence with a “Mardi Gras” flavor

By Herman Santa

On Saturday, February 24th, the first “Get Together” of the year was celebrated at the home of John and Cristina Abbott in Palm City. The vibrant personality of this joyful couple, her being Spanish and him Irish, was captured on the dance floor. Their love for music, especially Spanish music, was evident when Cristina and a guest danced flamenco on the deck that overlooks the pool, the most pleasant and enjoyable corner of their home.

The party was more than pleasant with the colorful outfits of the members dressed in the “Mardi Gras” carnival style and with the cuisine provided by the members who brought delicious Creole dishes to share and delight even the most discerning palates. After dinner, this humble servant and club president thanked everyone for coming and sharing the first monthly meeting of the year together, also expressing gratitude to the Abbotts for lending their residence.

Then the birthdays of the present members were celebrated, culminating in informing the members and guests. The best costume of the meeting was the German couple George and Martha Deger. Thank you, John and Cristina, for your generous contribution to our club. Long live SACI!
