Members of SACI elect Board of Directors at Don Ramon restaurant in Stuart

The Spanish American Club, Inc. held its annual assembly on January 30 at Don Ramón restaurant in the city of Stuart. The members elected the new Board of Directors composed of President; Tomás González, Vice President; Herman Santa, Treasurer; Eng. Joaquín Vélez, Secretary; José Lorenzatto, and the members; Mrs. Cecilia Vignier, Dr. Reneé Arnao, and Sam Del Rosario.
Mr. González is of Cuban nationality, owner of the Sunflower Educare Center in Port St. Lucie. Mr. Santa is Puerto Rican and serves as the Code Inspector for Martin County in the Building and Zoning Division. Engineer Vélez is Puerto Rican and works at the nuclear plant of Florida Power & Light in Hutchinson Island. Mr. Lorenzatto is of Argentine nationality and is a Scope Cardiologist at Martin Memorial Hospital in the city of Stuart. Ms. Vignier is Peruvian, a travel agent and real estate agent in the city of Port St. Lucie. Dr. Arnao, also Peruvian, is a Dentist in her home country and is doing her internship at Quality Dental Care in Fort Pierce. Mr. Del Rosario, who is Puerto Rican, is a staff member at Alma Latina in Port St. Lucie.
The Board of Directors was elected by majority for the fiscal year from January to December 1994. After the meeting, the members delighted their palates with a succulent dinner. The event concluded with the presentation of plaques to the club’s directors from the previous Board of Directors. The outgoing President, Ing. Hector P. Arias, Secretary, Sr. Cesar Bohórquez, and the Board Members, Ing. Guillermo Vignier and Ing. Joaquín Vélez, were honored for their work the previous year for the club. A plaque of appreciation was also presented to Don Ramón Villariño, owner of the restaurant “Don Ramón,” and to Sr. Antonio Ruiz, the establishment’s manager.

Spanish American Club, Inc. goes bowling…

On Saturday, September 18th at 8 p.m., the members of the Spanish American Club, Inc. of Port St. Lucie held their first bowling outing at the Bowling Alley of Port St. Lucie Lanes. Many of the members were bowling for the first time in many years. It was a joyful evening. Some members bowled, others watched the game, and we had the chance to meet the new members.
Members will continue to play at this bowling alley every Saturday starting at 8:00 PM. We hope to form a league of Hispanic bowlers in the area. The bowling alley is open on Saturdays (Open Lanes) to the public, and the cost is only $1.00 per game per person. Shoe rentals will be only 99 cents.

Halloween Dance with Pop Caribe orchestra at the Jensen Beach Women’s Club

On Saturday, October 31, “The Spanish American Club, Inc.” held its first Halloween ball at the Jensen Beach Women’s Association halls. The event was a complete success and featured participation from guests who came from Miami, Tampa, and Orlando.
The costumes were very original, and everyone who participated in the costume contest deserved a prize, but the judges could only choose 3 winners. The first prize was very well-deserved for Tomás González, followed by Herman Santa in second place and Frank Sepúlveda in third place. The happy winners received a lot of applause and prizes. The venue was allegorically decorated for the occasion by the talented ladies of the club, who worked hard at their homes creating decorations for the centerpieces and many other curiosities.
The well-known Caribbean Pop orchestra delighted the dance with a collection of very good songs known to please all tastes. Engineer Hector Arias, president of the club, warmly welcomed the 170 guests, thanking them for their participation in this dance. We all agree that to achieve the success that was had, a significant effort had to be made behind the scenes of this event, and that effort is none other than Herman Santa, who organized and ensured that everything was taken into account, down to the smallest detail.
A stay in Cancun for 6 days was also raffled, donated by member Cesar Bohórquez and his lovely wife, Lilia. In total, 15 prizes were raffled, all donations from members and businesses. The big dance lasted until 2 a.m., at which point, exhausted from dancing, we all went home with very pleasant memories.

The Spanish American Club, Inc. celebrated its “Second Anniversary” on Saturday, June 4, at the Jensen Beach Women’s Club, located at 2644 NE Sugar Hill Ave in Jensen Beach.
The party was entertained by the club’s DJs (Herman Santa and José Lorenzatto). The dancing started at 8:00 p.m. and ended at 1:00 a.m. There were prizes and raffles. It was a well-planned party, and we congratulate Tom González for organizing it.

Members of SACI re-elect Board of Directors at Don Ramon restaurant in Stuart

On June 13, the Spanish American Club, Inc. held its first assembly. The members reduced the Board of Directors from nine members to seven. The new Board consists of Engineer Hector P. Arias; President, Thomas González; Vice President, Herman Santa; Treasurer, Cesar Bohórquez; Vice Secretary, and Members; Dr. Antonio J. Castillo; Engineer Guillermo Vignier, and Engineer Joaquín Vélez.
Some of the topics discussed at the assembly were to hold a party with a band on October 30 and another one on December 31. The members will continue to meet at the residences of the members every month where they will celebrate the birthdays of the members for that month. It was also agreed to collect food for a poor family in November and to collect toys for poor children in December. The members took the opportunity to celebrate Dr. Castillo’s birthday. In September, the members will meet at a bowling alley in the area.

Monthly Get Together at the residence of Herman and Lucy Santa in Jensen Beach

On August 15th, the Spanish American Club, Inc. celebrated at Herman and Lucy Santa in Jensen Beach. The club’s first social function was lively and received positive comments from all participants. In these initial steps, the club will emphasize this type of family gathering to develop affinity among members, which is absolutely necessary to maintain a healthy organization. Among the fifteen couples who attended the event, an excellent communication of mutual trust was established quickly, and a consensus regarding future objectives was reached.
Mr. Hector Arias, President of the organization, reiterated the importance of creating an institution with strong affinity among the members to foster a solidarity that we can all be proud of. The growth will be slow and organized. A plaque of appreciation was also presented to Mr. Francisco Pérez, the current secretary of the club, for his monumental work in writing the bylaws and the corporation documents, which are second to none compared to the American constitution.

The Spanish American Club, Inc. is a new organization in the Treasure Coast

A new organization, “The Spanish American Club, Inc.” was recently established on the Treasure Coast. Its President, Mr. Hector Arias, tells us that the club’s objectives are: to promote friendship and solidarity among its members and the residents of the area through social, cultural, and civic activities. As a non-profit corporation, the organization will support its members and the community and provide knowledge of geography, history, art, culture, and folklore of our Hispanic-American countries.
The founding members of the organization are: Ing. Hector P. Arias, President, Cuban, Engineer from the city of Ft. Pierce. Mr. Tomás A. González, Vice-President, Cuban, former employee of Florida Power & Light, currently the owner of Sun Flower Educare Center. Mr. Francisco Pérez, Secretary, Puerto Rican, who works for the Florida Department of Environmental Regulation. Mr. Edgardo Morales, Vice-Secretary, Puerto Rican, Environmental Specialist at the Health Department in Martin County. Mr. Herman Santa, Treasurer, Puerto Rican, who is a Code Inspector for Martin County, in the Buildings and Zoning Division. Ing. Guillermo Vignier, Vice Treasurer, Cuban, Assistant Engineer with the Maintenance Division of the State Department of Transportation. Dr. Antonio A. Castillo, Member, Dominican, Allergist, with offices in the city of Stuart. Mr. Guillermo Rojas, Member, Venezuelan, owner of Fiesta Travel in Stuart and Export Company Trendmar Corp. Mr. Sam del Rosario, Member, Puerto Rican, Staff Member of Alma Latina.

Annual Mothers Day with Disc music at “The Spanish Lakes Clubhouse”

The members of the Spanish American club, Inc. (SACI) hosted their Annual Mother Day Party Saturday, May 22nd at a private clubhouse in Ft. Pierce. Nearly 70 members and their guests dined on succulent Latin cuisine prepared by the members with salads, pastas, desserts, and coffee and of course the mother’s day cake. After the dinner, the Board called the members and their guests having their birthdays during May. Nilda Betancourt, Ida Gallant and Dick Sperl were asked to come up and stand near the cake and the D.J. played the song “Las Mañanitas” for them.
After the birthday celebration, the board and the scholarship committee raffles the door prizes and held the 50/50 raffle and the hat dance contest. Door Prize Winners were Gladys Cruz, Gladys Velez, Kathy Rivera, Dick Diamond and Nancy O’Shaka. Linda Manzanares (50/50), Diane Sperl (Painting) and Tony Denisio (Hat Dance Contest). This month’s hostesses were Dick and Diana Sperl who welcomed all the members and their guests. The event helped raise funds for the scholarship. The club which has over 80 members from Martin and St. Lucie counties meets once a month to eat, dance and socialize while making a difference in the community.

Monthly “Get Together” at the residence of Kino and Gladys Vélez in Port St Lucie

Joaquin “Kino” and Gladys Vélez, one of our partners with a festive spirit, were the hosts of the club’s monthly “Get Together” on Saturday, April 29, at the “Balantrae, Club Med” venue. Definitely, the best contribution we make to the club is to lend our residence for a little while, not only opening the doors of our homes but also those of our hearts.
Before dinner, we prayed with Lic. Antio Espinosa to bless the meal, and after the buffet, we celebrated the birthdays of the members present in April, including myself, Lucy Santa, María Finnerty, Bill Shaw, María Yeagley, Gladys Vélez, Luis Ruiz, Pura Carvajal, and little Valery Ebner.
Afterward, we danced to Kino’s music until late at night. During a break, Vice President Blanca Mireya Kaiser and Secretary Isa Bryson introduced the new members and reminded the members to send in the review of the By-Laws, to register for the cruise on Sunday, June 25, and distributed tickets for the Mother’s Day party.

When Saturday afternoon arrives, the day of the members’ “Get Together,” many people from our countries experience a change in mindset. All the accumulated exhaustion throughout the month from so much work transforms into a joyful anticipation and celebratory attitudes for the monthly meeting of the members.
On Saturday, October 16th, in an exquisite atmosphere of camaraderie and good taste, the members and guests of the “Spanish American Club, Inc.” (SACI for its acronym in English) gathered at the residence of Daniel and Sara Lee in Port St. Lucie. The members brought delicious dishes to share and to celebrate with lots of Latin flavor. What matters is always communicating, meeting new members, enjoying the delightful buffet, listening to music, and having a good time. How wonderful it is to eat freshly made roast pork! Thanks to Danny, Sara, and Iliana for lending us their humble home.
