Spanish American Club, Inc. celebra el día de las brujas

El Spanish American Club, Inc. celebraró el dIa de las Brujas (Halloween) el sábado 30 de octubre en los salones de los “Knights of Columbus”, localizado en el 451 S. W. R.avenswood Lane, Port St. Lucie. Más de 200 personas asistieron a la fiesta. La fiesta fue amenizada por la Orquesta de Salsa “Grupo Chevere” de Miami. El baile empezaró a las 8:00 PM y terminaró a la 1:00AM. La entrada fue de $20.00 por persona y $25.00 en Ia puerta. La boleta incluyó trago gratis toda La noche (Open Bar). Habia “Snacks” en las mesas y premios para los tres mejores disfraces.
Para aquellas personas que no fueron al baile de “Halloween” del año pasado se perdieron otro gran baile. Esta fiesta fue una de las mejores que el Spanish American Club Inc. ha programado. Mother’s Day with live band “Pop Caribe” at the Jensen Beach Women’s Club

The Spanish American Club, Inc. held the Mother’s Day party on Saturday, May 13, at the Jensen Beach Women’s Club. Salsa lovers and fans of good Latin music enjoyed the sensational group “Pop Caribe” from West Palm Beach.
This was a party planned by the Board of Directors to raise funds for the club. The Vice President, Mr. Tomás González, presided over the dance and, on behalf of the board, presented each lady member with a corsage in recognition of their support and collaboration that they always provide to the club. All attendees had a joyful night with their loved ones. Thank you for your support.
Bowling 2002
Successful Monthly Bowling Games

The members of the “Spanish American Club, Inc.” (SACI for its acronym in English) are bowling at the “Port St. Lucie Lanes” in the city of Port St. Lucie. A large number of members gather with their families. The sizable group of participants enjoys an afternoon filled with fellowship and camaraderie. The members will meet on the last Sunday of each month at 5 PM. The bowling alley is located on U.S. 1 in Port St. Lucie.
This activity is solely for members and their families, but those who wish to join the group and enter the club are welcome to come and participate. The bowling alley, with its spacious and modern facilities, has fully automated lanes, a game room, a “Sport Bar” with billiard tables, and a café offering all the snacks that both adults and children enjoy. We had a great time in a family-friendly atmosphere. Activities like these help the club move forward. Go SACI!
Picnic 2002
Annual Picnic at Jaysees Park

The members of the “Spanish American Club, Inc.” celebrated their Annual Picnic on Sunday, September 15, at the Jaycees Park in Port St. Lucie. A large majority of the members attended with their families and friends. The event started at 1:00 PM and ended at 6:00 PM. While some members played the game of “Sapo,” others chatted and enjoyed the delicious buffet made up of Latin foods. We had a very fun afternoon. We hope it can be repeated next year if God permits.
Scholarship 2002 (Cabrera)
9th scholarship from the “Spanish American Club, Inc.”

One of the goals of the Scholarship Committee of the Spanish American Club, Inc. is education. Consequently, the Spanish American Club, Inc. Scholarship Fund was created with the purpose of raising funds to award a scholarship each year to a Hispanic student from Martin or St. Lucie counties.
The scholarship fund is managed by the club’s Board of Directors. The committee is comprised of Herman Santa, Isa Bryson, Gladys Vélez, and Ana Swift. This year, two applications were received from Lincoln Park Academy High School in Ft. Pierce. Students Jillian Marie Cepeda and Roberto Cabrera were interviewed by the committee on Sunday, June 2nd. The winner was Roberto Cabrera from the city of Ft. Pierce. Roberto will receive the amount of $500 to help cover admission expenses to the University of Miami.
I want to thank Puerto Rican sculptor Eric Piñeiro for his generous donation, which helped raise the funds for next year’s scholarship. I also want to thank the scholarship committee, the Board of Directors, and the partners who supported us and helped sell tickets for the palm raffle.
Dominoes 2001
Santa and Swift conquer “4th Domino Tournament 2001”

With the participation of three couples, the “4th Domino Tournament 2001” was held on Sunday, December 30, at the residence of Herman Santa in Jensen Beach. Six people competed in the event. Herman Santa and Attorney Victor Swift were crowned champions after defeating last year’s champions, Alex López and Martin Santos, in the final.
Pablo Santos and Cuca Santa-Santos, who were on a stroll in Jensen Beach, came in third place. There were no “cheats” or “blanks.” The event was organized by Mr. Herman Santa to raise funds for the student scholarship “Spanish American Club Scholarship.” Thanks to all the contestants, as it was a joyful and pleasant time.
Get Together 2001 (Velez)
Monthly “Get Together” at the residence of Kino and Gladys Velez in Port St Lucie

Definitely, the best contribution we make to the club is lending our residence for a little while, not only by opening the doors of our homes but also the doors of our hearts. Joaquin “Kino” and Gladys Vélez, one of our members with a festive spirit, graciously offered their elegant residence on Saturday, April 8th, to celebrate the monthly meeting of the members. With their characteristic smile and kindness, Kino and Gladys made us feel at home.
We had a pleasant time, chatting with old friends, new members, and savoring the delicious buffet comprised of various dishes prepared by the members themselves, including stewed chicken, rice with pigeon peas, black beans, and some pasta. And as always, we finished with dessert and coffee. As usual, at the monthly “Get Together” gatherings of the members, joy, camaraderie, and snacks reign supreme. Thanks to the Vélez family for lending us a little corner of their beautiful home. The club’s next activity is planned to celebrate the “1st Bowling Tournament.”

Annual Mother’s Day with Disc Jockey Sam Rivera at “Don Ramon Restaurant“

In a festive atmosphere of pleasant camaraderie, the “Spanish American Club, Inc.” celebrated “Mother’s Day,” an event that takes place successfully every year. The luxurious banquet hall of Don Ramon restaurant in Stuart served as the backdrop for the club members’ dinner/dance.
Once registered at the entrance of the second floor, the members and guests opened the bar for those who wanted to enjoy a drink. The menu prepared by chef Osmany Estrada, the owner of the establishment, was an authentic reflection of Cuban cuisine. We started with the salad and then savored the roasted pork, julienne chicken, and the ropa vieja, and of course, the delicious flan was a must to complement the meal.
After dinner, the club President Herman Santa and Vice President Roberto Betancourt took to the microphone to welcome everyone, congratulate the mothers, and inform the members about upcoming activities. Joy reigned throughout the night, thanks to the great music by “D.J. Sam.” Thanks to all who helped, especially Roberto Betancourt, chairman of the event.

If there is something beautiful in this life, it is being able to see a student graduate from school. However, not all students always reach that goal, especially if they come from low-income backgrounds. For this reason, the “Scholarship Night Dance” of the “Spanish American Club, Inc.” was celebrated on Saturday, November 18, in the ballroom of Langford Park in Jensen Beach, with the purpose of raising funds for a student who intends to continue their studies at the university level.
The grand party was fabulous with the entertainment of the famous DJ Bob Roldan and his “Salsa Express” from Port St. Lucie, which created a sensation with its repertoire of modern music. This is the third time “Salsa Express” has played for the Club and it manages to mobilize a lot of salsa dancers to Jensen Beach. Old and new friends came together to celebrate for a good cause. Some of the known attendees were: Mr. Victor Swift and his wife Ana, Dr. Rosie Avilés and her husband Rene, Dr. Chito Sarkar and his dear wife Lourdes, Engineer Kino Veléz and his kind wife Gladys, Ron and Isa Bryson, Rey and Yolanda Sanchez, John and Gloria Fischer, Maria Bentel and her family, Rafael and Ana Febus, Ray and Liz Lopéz, Herman and Lucy Santa, and the best DJ at the moment, Roberto Roldan and his family.
During a break, the committee director of the scholarship and former president of the Club, Herman Santa, welcomed the attendees and thanked them for their support and cooperation with the committee. Through this newsletter, we want to thank Bob Roldan for donating his time and talent. We also want to thank the Scholarship Committee, especially Isa Bryson and Ana Swift, who worked hard to make the dance a success. We cannot forget the members and friends who made donations. All the funds raised went to the Club’s Scholarship Fund for the year 2001. Remember that helping a Hispanic student always warms our hearts. This will be the last club activity for the public this year. The club’s upcoming activities are scheduled in the same location at the same time and with the same DJ. There will be prizes and surprises.
On January 20, 2001, the “Annual Assembly” of the members will be held. After the Assembly (after 7:00 P.M.), the public is invited to join the members in a healthy, joyful, and clean environment. Please make your reservations in advance, as only a limited number of tickets will be available for the public. On February 10, the “Valentine’s Day” will be celebrated at the same venue at the same time with “Salsa Express.” Mark your calendars, as these dances are sure to be a success. Reserve your seats in advance. Space is limited, and prices will be reasonable so that everyone can enjoy themselves with family and friends. Wishing you a happy holiday season and may the coming year bring you luck, health, and happiness!

X-MAS PARTY OF PARTNERS at the Don Ramón restaurant

On December 28th at 7:00 p.m., some club members gathered at the Don Ramón restaurant in Stuart to collect toys for low-income children. As usual, the evening began with a toast, and then the members enjoyed a delicious dinner. After dinner, Gladys Piñeiro presented a recognition plaque to María Bello, owner of the El Mundo Hispano newspaper, for her work with the club. Once again, the semi-private nook of the popular restaurant was filled with laughter and joy, creating a night with a festive spirit.
