Annual Golf Tournament
By Herman Santa
The “3rd Golf Tournament” of the Spanish American Club, Inc. was successfully held on Saturday, November 5, 2000. Art Morales, the son of Peruvian parents, and his American partner Derek Wright dominated in the “Low Gross” category among 12 players, finishing with a score of 64 over par (+3) in a “Two Men Best Ball” competition held at the beautiful Savanna Club in Port St. Lucie, under a clear sky and a gentle breeze.
Ivan Murrell, a native of Panama, and his American companion Dana Peterson, with a total of 66 over par (+5) in the “Low Gross,” came in second place. Ivan Murrell also won the “Closest to the Pin” and “The Longest Drive.” Other competitors who played but did not win prizes included Dominican Al Saladin and his son born here, Francis Saladin, who finished in 3rd place. The Puerto Ricans Joe Castro and Luis Rosa placed 4th. Lic. Victor Swift from the United States and Herman Santa from Puerto Rico ranked in 5th place. The Cubans Arnaldo Palenzuela and Argelio Del Valle finished in 6th place. Bo Bosecker paid the fee but could not play.
After the tournament, the golfers ended up celebrating at the “Pueblo Viejo” Restaurant in Port St. Lucie, where they had some drinks and distributed the trophies. The most important thing, however, is that everyone shared a common purpose as amateur players, some with very little competitive experience: to enjoy time with fellow members and have a good time together in a healthy and cheerful environment. “The main thing is that everyone has a good time and enjoys a pleasant day while also promoting friendship and unity among Hispanic golfers,” said the Club president, Arnaldo Palenzuela. We would like to thank all the participants for their support. These are the activities that the Club needs to unite Hispanics in the area. Activities like these help the Club move forward. Long live S.A.C.I.!

Ha jugar golf se ha dicho “Savanna Club” becomes It has been said to play golf “Savanna Club”.
By Herman Santa
The heat has arrived, the “snow birds” have left, the prices for golfing have dropped, and for many of us who enjoy hitting the little white golf ball, the golf courses are now empty. Some members of the “Spanish American Club, Inc.” enjoy this sport and have already started practicing at Savanna Club, and soon they will go to other golf courses on the Treasure Coast to improve and learn new techniques.
In order to promote friendship and harmony among Hispanic players in the area, and if there is interest among the participants, the club will attempt to sponsor a golf tournament very soon. To organize the tournament, at least 20 players are needed. There will be trophies for the following positions: Couples in First, Second, and Third place. There will also be the “Longest Drive” and “Closest to the Pin” awards. The proceeds will go to the club’s scholarship fund. They will be practicing on Sundays. People who wish to join the group can call Herman Santa.
