Bowling 2013
Let’s go bowling!

Do you like bowling? Can you be a team player and willing to practice once a week or once in a while? If you are a member or not of the Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) and answer yes to these questions, I would like to hear from you! We practice once a week on Mondays at the Jensen Beach bowl. We start at 6:30 until 8:30 P.M., which will give us enough time to play three games. The practices are voluntarily. If you like bowling and would like to make new friends, come and join us and have fun with us. We are a fun group! Ha bolear se ha dicho!



Golf 2013
Let’s play golf!
Los socios y amigos del “Spanish American Club, Inc.”(SACI) continuan jugando golf en el campo de golf de “The Saint” en Port St. Lucie. Todos los miercoles después de las 9 de la mañana. Herman Santa, Luis Rosa, Nick Arnell, Mike Smith, Doug Bortz, Ralph Harrison, Bernie Jethroe, Roberto Belardo, Rubén Sánchez, Gil Hulting, Don Taber, Jaime Rojas, Mike Perez, Manny Carcel, Tony Colón, Neftalí Rivera, Jorge Pérez, Fernando Mejía, Ruben Aleman, Pete Marrero and Ed Seubert. están participando en los “Try Outs” desde que se formó el grupo hace más de 20 años. Se empieza hasta que se llegue a los veinte juegos para determinar el “Handicap” de cada jugador. Algunos apuestan en los hoyos de “Par 3” y otros en el total de puntos (1 punto por el Boggie, 2 puntos por el Par, etc.) al final del juego. La esperanza del grupo es unir a los golfistas hispanos y hacer un torneo de golf al final de la temporada para recaudar fondos para la beca que ofrece el club a estudiantes hispanos de bajos ingresos. Las personas que estén interesadas en unirse al grupo pueden llamar a Herman o visitor el clubhouse los miercoles. !Ha Jugar golf se ha dicho!

Winter Dance 2013
Tasty food, good dancing music after the general Assembly

A delicious buffet, good camaraderie and Latin music, that’s what the members of the Spanish American Club, Inc. and their guests enjoyed Saturday, January 5 to kick off the Three Kings holidays “Fiesta de Reyes” and the New Year at the Disabled American Veterans club in Port St. Lucie.
We began the evening with the election of the new board for fiscal year 2013 at 4:30 P.M. After the election of the new board dinner, the D.J. played a “Happy Birthday” song for members and their guests who were celebrating their birthdays during the month of January, among them were: Ray Matias, Xiomara Guanill and Ivan Guanill, then the board conducted the 50/50 raffle. The winners were: Rossana Parra and Manny Carcel.
The Highlight of the night was José Ramirez who sang a few Mexican songs after the raffles drawings. I want to thank every one for coming early and vote to elect a new board. Special thanks to Vivi Pouriet and Angelo Cordova from Medical Consultants for their presentation and the donation of the gift bags. We had a good time. The new board is planning their first party of the year to celebrate Valentine on Saturday, FebruL to R: Leo Roman, Isa Bryson, Gustavo Santa, Lucy Santa and Mercy Romanary 9 at the same location.

Members of SACI elect Board of Directors at DAV

The members of the Spanish American Club, Inc. conducted their 21st annual election at the Jan. 5 membership meeting at the Disabled American Veterans Club in Port St. Lucie. Carlos Bonet will serve as the new president. Other elected officers also were installed: Alex James, vice president; Raquel O’Connor, secretary; Ron Bryson, treasurer; Nancy Rozon, public relations; Fe Vallderuten, director; and Al Feliciano, substitute.
Following the swearing-in of the new board, the ceremony of the “passing of the gavel” was conducted. The gavel passed down the line from Gladys Piñeiro (2003) to Lionel Roman (2008) to Jimmy Rivera (2009-20010) to Mary Figliola (2011) to Herman Santa (1996, 1998, 2001, 2004, 2007 & 2012) and finally to Carlos Bonet. A Valentine Party has been planned for Saturday, Feb. 9 at the Disabled American Veterans Club in Port St. Lucie. The event will start at 7:30 p.m. until 11 p.m. The evening will feature Latin dancing music and raffle drawings. Donations are $7 for members and $10 for guests in advance.
The club is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1992 to promote the Hispanic heritage on the Treasure Coast. The members meet monthly on the third or last Saturday of each month after 7 p.m. at the Disabled American Veterans Club to socialize, eat and dance.

Message from the President

On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Spanish American Club, Inc. I would like to wish all of you a healthy, prosperous and Happy New Year. You, your family and your guests have shown me how a community of varied personalities and cultures, with common interests, can come together to enjoy life and in the process serve our communities. I am honored to have served as your president this year and look forward to continuing the work of the Spanish American Club, Inc. next year.
Thank you all for your patronage and support throughout the year. Special thanks to the Scholarship Committee, the Website Committee and to those of you who donated door prizes for our monthly parties. God Bless, Carlos


Christmas 2012
Christmas Party: A wonderful evening the DAV club

More than 110 attended the Christmas dinner dance on Saturday, December 29 at the Disabled American Veterans Club in Port St. Lucie. The meal consisted of salad with dressing on the side, bread, pulled pork (Lechón asado), chicken enchilada casserole, yellow rice and a vegetable medley. Assortments of desserts among them “Flan” was set out for the guests to choose from. There was coffee and a birthday cake to celebrate the members December birthdays.
After the dinner, the D.J. played a “Happy Birthday” song for members and their guests who were celebrating their birthdays during the month of December. Among them were: Willie González, Nilda Betancourt, Zipy Cartagena, Charlie López, Mary Figliola, Jimmy Rivera, Kathy Rivera, Gustavo Santa, Virginia Feliciano, Ernesto Suárez and Kino Vélez. There were two raffle winners and four door prizes that were given out. The winners were: Mary Figliola ($100), Al Feliciano (Door prize), Nereida Pellot ($36), Diana Manzanares (Door Prize), Deway Byerly (Certificate) and Sonia Hernandez (Certificate). Hat dance winner was José Ramírez.
The Highlight of the night was Joe Renta from Showtime Entertainment who did a terrific job entertaining us playing the “Congas” and “Timbales”. His cousin Raul Del Rosario (Deejay) and his girlfriend Priscilla “Coro” were marvelous. The food was delicious, the music was great and the decoration committee did a good job. To all the members and guests who made donations for the door prizes, we appreciate your generosity.
