Annual Golf Tournament raises scholarship money

By Herman Santa

What a better way to spend an afternoon than playing golf for a good cause. This was exactly what some members of the Spanish American Club, Inc. and their friends did on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at The Saints Golf Course in Port St. Lucie.  The winners were: Ed Seubert “Longest Drive,” Carlos Bonet and Jim Marguart “Most Points” and Ed Seubert and Gus Migliore “Greenies.” There was no winner for the “Closest to the Pin,” which will be played soon.

Thanks goes to our golf committee and our club members and their friends for participating and making the tournament a success. Proceeds went to the scholarship funds of the club. The tournament provided participants an opportunity to have a great time while giving to a good cause.  The group was formed more than 20 years ago. They play 18 holes on Wednesdays from January through December (winter after noon and summer after 9 a.m.) at The Saints Golf Course in Port St. Lucie.

Some play “Closest to the Pin” on all par threes and others play the point system (Birdie 3 points, Par 2 points and a Bogey, 1 point). You don’t have to be a member of the Spanish American Club, Inc. to join the group. Some of the active players of the club are: Herman Santa, Luis Rosa, Nick Arnell, Roberto Belardo, Ray Guadalupe, Jim Marguart, Carlos Bonet, Rubén Sánchez, Gil Hulting, Fernando Mejía, Rubén Alemán, Gus Migliore, Ed Seubert, Joe Rizzo, Ted Abbot, Bill Allen, Jim Lynch and Carlos Rodríguez.

Other players that substitute or every now and then play with the group are: Pete Marrero, Ralph Harrison, Bernie Jethroe, Don Taber, Jaime Rojas, Mike Pérez, Manny Carcel, Tony Colón, Neftalí Rivera, Jorge Pérez and Efren Peréz.  To find out more information about them, please contact Herman Santa at hermansanta@comcast.net.
