Assembly 2016

The Spanish American Club, Inc. elect’s new board

By Herman Santa

The members of The Spanish American Club, Inc. elected a new board for the fiscal year 2016. The annual general assembly meeting was held on January 9, 2016, at the Disabled American Veterans Club in Port St. Lucie.

Much of The Spanish American Club, Inc.’s success derives from strong volunteer leadership. For more than 24 years, The Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) has relied on the guidance and expertise of community leaders to make a positive impact in Martin and St. Lucie Counties through fundraising, volunteerism and character-building.

Each year, in January the members elect new officers to help set organizational goals and to ensure that funds raised through the annual campaign are being invested wisely in the club’s strategic priority areas such as scholarships for low-income Hispanic students, donations of food baskets in Thanksgiving for needed families and collection of Christmas toys for disadvantaged families.

At the meeting, the members of the club elected Carlos Bonet, President; Nancy Rozon, Vice President; Al Feliciano, Secretary; Ruben Aleman, Treasurer; Ray Guadalupe, Public Relations; Luis Carrillo, Director and Melissa Sanchez, Substitute.

During the annual meeting, Ron Bryson was warmly thanked for serving as Treasurer of the corporation from 2013 to 2015. Tony Colón (Public Relations) and Fe Vall de Ruten (Director) were also honored for their years of service during the same period.

SACI is the area’s oldest non-profit social Hispanic organization, established in 1992. The main goals of the corporation are to promote friendship and solidarity among its members and other non-profit corporations, through social, cultural and civic activities and to promote the knowledge of the Spanish-speaking countries’ geography, history, art, culture and folklore.
