26th Anniversary of SACI with D.J. José Ramírez at The Polish American Club

by Charlie Quiles

On Saturday, September 28…..and then the clock struck 6 as club members and their spouses trickled into the ballroom. Awaiting them, the tables were beautifully decorated each with a bouquet of flowers and flags representing the various Latino countries, indicative of the many nationalities present at this festivity. Some guests in attendance dressed in the traditional garb of their respective nation. In any event they all came ready to party.

A short delay was experienced when the DJ forgot this was a Friday night event and not the usual Saturday night affair. However, that did not seem to dampen the spirits of the attendees one bit. When he (DJ) finally made his appearance, it was to loud cheers. With the aid of our club members he quickly set up his equipment and once again they were all ready to party down.

They danced to a variety of salsas, merengues, cumbias, bachata and even one or two reggaeton. At one point, DJ Jose stopped the music to honor a request by Dick and Karen Diamond. The attendees were entertained by the Diamonds as they danced to the romantic ballad by Roberto Carlos, “Si El Amor Se Va”.

Lucky Door prize winners were Yvonne Bonet, Wanda Oquendo, Javier Andrade, Vivian Megaro, Aida Vélez. and finally Sandra Jimenez and Lucy Santa won the split 50/50 raffle drawing. Proceeds benefit our generous ‘Scholarship Fund’. The ‘Club’ thanks all who participated in support of this charitable cause.” (excerpt provided by Herman Santa ‘unofficial club historian’)

During this period, President Ruben Aleman called for a moment of silence in honor of our own Luis Carrillo. Luis served as the Club Treasurer until recently when he had to step down due to the excruciating pains of his overwhelming illness. He succumbed to his ailment shortly thereafter. Luis, you served your Club well. You will be sorely missed.

Again, as usual, all of this was made possible through the hard work of our Board of Directors: President, Ruben Aleman; Vice President, Nancy Rozon; Treasurer, Lionel Roman; Secretary, Raquel O’Connor; Public Relations Director, Ramon Guadalupe; Director, Carlos Mejia, and; Substitute Director, Charlie Quiles. The Club applauds your efforts. Thank you all.

The Spanish American Club was founded in 1992. The mission of the club is to promote friendship and solidarity among its members and other non profit organizations throughout the Treasure Coast through cultural, social, civic and sport activities; to promote knowledge of all Spanish speaking countries, their geography, history, art, and folklore. Hasta la proxima! (Until next time!)
