Scholarship 2023 (André Mendoza)
66th scholarship from the “Spanish American Club, Inc.”

The Spanish American Club, Inc. is proud to recognize one outstanding student selected to receive one of the six club’s 2023 scholarship awards. The recipient is André Mendoza of Martin County.
André Mendoza was awarded $1, 000. He was born in La Jolla, California. His parents are Juan Rafael Mendoza and Fabiola Diaz Montes Rojo. They were born in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico. André attended Martin County High School in Stuart, Florida, and he will be attending Louisiana State University where he will be pursuing a degree in Digital Marketing.
This year scholarship committee Chair by Nancy Rozon and Co-chair by Pamela Peña Elizabeth Mejía and Herman Santa along with the board of directors Carlos Bonet, President; Nancy Rozon, Vice President; Evelyn Carrillo, Secretary; Josephine Guadalupe, Treasurer; Vivian Megaro, Public Relations: Pam Peña, Director; Mary Figliola, Substitute Director did a magnificent job selecting the students and running the program smoothly. The committee selected the students for their achievements, trustworthiness, character, responsibility, fairness, and academics.
The scholarship was established in 1992 for low-income students. Over the past 28 years, the club has awarded more than $40,000 in scholarships to 64 High School seniors of Martin and St. Lucie counties. The board raises money for the scholarships by having garage sales, 50/50 raffles at the monthly dance parties and committee events. The board also organizes other events such as picnics, cruises, and garage sales. The committees organize events such as bowling, golf, billiards, and dominoes tournaments.
The mission of the club is to promote friendship and solidarity among its members, neighbors, and other nonprofit organizations of the Treasure Coast through cultural, social, civic, charity and sports activities to promote knowledge of the Spanish speaking countries, their geography, history, art and folklore.

The Spanish American Club, Inc. is proud to recognize one outstanding student selected to receive one of the six club’s 2023 scholarship awards. The recipient is Paola Villaroel of Martin County.
Paola Villarroel was awarded $1,000. Paola was born in Caracas, Venezuela. She moved to the United States in 2019 by herself. Her parents are German Villarroel and Carolyn Díaz. They were born in Caracas Venezuela. She attended Clark Advanced Learning Center in Stuart, Martin County, Florida. She will be attending the University of Central Florida where she will be pursuing a degree in Biomedical Science with a Neuroscience track.

She will be attending the University of South Florida. She will be pursuing a degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders

The Spanish American Club, Inc. is proud to recognize one outstanding student selected to receive one of the three club’s 2025 scholarship awards. The recipient is Sandra Carina Duran Cruz of St. Lucie County.
Sandra was awarded $1,500. Sandra Carina Duran Cruz. She was born in Port St Lucie, but raise in Fort Pierce. She graduated from fort Pierce central with high honors. She will be attending Indian River State college for an AA in Radiology and later on transfer to a university to become a physician assistant in Radiology. Both of her parents were born and raise in Mexico making her first generation American and going to college.

Daniella Fernández was awarded $1,000. She was born in Port St. Lucie, Florida. She attended Lincoln Park Academy in Fort Pierce, Florida. Her parents are José Fernández from Venezuela and Iria Fernández from Cuba. She will be attending Florida State University, where she will pursue a major in finance. Daniella plans to become an international relations attorney.

Aryannah was awarded $1,000. She was born in Port St. Lucie Florida. Her parents are Talitha and Ernesto Sánchez from Puerto Rico. She will be attending the University of Central Florida. She will be pursuing a degree in Biomedical Science Major Pre-Med and Neuroscience track. Her goal is to become a Pediatric Neurosurgeon. She will also be doing an observer ship in the fall with the surgeons in Orlando, Florida.

Itzel was born in Rio Verde, San Luis Potosí, México. Her parents are Bartolo Mendoza Dorado. He was born in Arroyo Seco, Querétaro, México. Her mother Ma. Del Socorro Segura Loredo. She was born in Rio Verde, San Luis Potosí, México. She is now living with her parents in Ft. Pierce. Itzel attended Ft. Pierce Central High School, and this fall she will finish her associate’s degree at Indian River State College this summer before moving to Florida Atlantic University. she will be majoring in Psychology, but plan to also complete another major in Early Childhood education if possible.

Logan was born in Stuart, Florida. His parents are Justin Putnam and Melissa Putnam Feliciano. Logan’s father was born in Florida and mother was born in New York of Puerto Rican heritage. Logan attended Martin County High school in Stuart Florida and will be attending University of Central Florida where he will be pursuing a degree in Aerospace Engineering. Logan’s dream is to one day work for NASA.
