Assembly 2024
January 2024, General Assembly Meeting at DAV
By Carlos Bonet/Evelyn Carrillo
Determination of the Quorum:
A total of 62 associates were present at the meeting. Quorum reached, therefore, the General Assembly continued.
Swearing in of Associates and Board of Directors
In the month of November 2023, the election process began for any directorship on the Board. Nominated were Carlos Bonet – President, Nancy Rozon – Vice President, Evelyn Carrillo – Secretary, Josephine Guadalupe – Treasurer, Vivian Megaro – Public Relations, Pamela Peña – Vocal Director and Mary Figliola – Substitute. At this moment, Carlos Bonet proceeded with swearing in the Board and continued with swearing in the members available. Evelyn Carrillo, secretary swore in Carlos Bonet as President.
Yearly Report
Carlos Bonet requested that all donations/fees for SACI events be mailed to SACI’s mailbox. This is to avoid any mishaps when receiving cash or checks when we are at the bowling alley or at any event. It was also requested that all members interested in attending any event, are to notify Carlos Bonet on or before the RSV dates. By doing so, it is easier to complete the seating arrangements without having to constantly make changes at the last minute.
Article of Incorporation (501.C3)
Carlos Bonet reported that for several years he has attempted to obtain the 501.C3 approval so that SACI can obtain a tax exemption status. But there have been several changes in the filing which states that no monies received by the organization can be given back to the members. This requirement disqualifies SACI as financial compensation is given to our members at events such as Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Picnic outing and even Christmas events. Carlos Bonet searched other ways to see how SACI can still apply for the 501.C3 and his finding was to create a sub-group into our corporation and reapply for the 501.C3 under our sub-group. It will have a new name, SACI of PSL Outreach, with its own board, and its own article of incorporation. We will need to reach out to members of the club to join us in creating this sub-group. For now, Carlos Bonet will be the President, Josephine Guadalupe will be the Treasurer, Pamela Peña will be the secretary. More information will be provided as we continue to do the paperwork.
Pamela Peña – Vocal Director stated that she wanted to thank everyone who contributed at the dance 50/50, Mr. Andres Padilla – Bowling Director with their 50/50 contributions. Mr. Herman Santa Golf Director with their 50/50 contributions and the yearly Golf Tournament contributions. She also wanted to thank all the individual members who made a donation. Sub-total of the Bowling, Golf and Event donations was $3,254.57. Individual donations were $1,042.50. Grand total of $4,297.07. Pamela reported that for the fiscal year of 2022-2023 SACI was able to give five (5) students a grant of $1,000 each. On behalf of Scholarship Committee (Nancy Rozon, Herman Santa, Elizabeth Mejia, and myself) we all thank you for your generosity and for helping these students receive a scholarship. Pamela updated our website to facilitate the students with applying for a SACI scholarship.

A message from Carlos Bonet – President
All members need to respond to the emails sent from SACI. Please do not wait a month(s) to say that you have not received an email. Having said this, if any members have changed their emails, address or phone number please notify the secretary immediately. If there is no response, leave a message and she will call you at her earliest convenience. It is important that I am contacted by email immediately after reading the monthly flyer. This will facilitate the sitting arrangements on each dance.
501C3
Several tactics were discussed to begin on obtaining funds under The Spanish American Club Community Outreach (SACCO). It was agreed that the Board would have separate meetings. SACCO will also have a separate bank account. A detailed proposal will be discussed at their first meeting.
