Spanish American Club celebrates Father’s Day

By Herman Santa

The Annual Father’s Day Dinner Dance hosted by The Spanish American Club, Inc. was celebrated on Saturday, June 25 at the Disabled American Veterans Club in Port St. Lucie.  Before the dinner, master of ceremonies and president of the club, Carlos Bonet, welcomed everyone to the party and gave an update of the status of the club and thanked every one of them for their continued support.

We began the evening with cocktails and then enjoyed a delicious buffet. The meal consisted of stewed chicken, pulled pork, rice with chickpeas, yucca with mojito (a garlic dressing), dessert and coffee.  After the dinner, the board conducted the raffles and celebrated the member’s birthdays of the month of June while entertainer D.J. José Ramírez played a Happy Birthday song for them.

It was an evening filled with laughs, drinks, food, dancing and raffles. A special thank you to members Yvonne Bonet, Vivian Megaro, Celia Santia and Daisy Aleman for their assistance in cooking the buffet.  A big thanks to our board of directors and members Angel and Nereida Pellot and Dick and Karen Dimond who helped with the decorations, set ups and assisted throughout the night.

By Herman Santa

The Spanish American Club, Inc. members celebrated their annual picnic at Jensen Beach Park on Hutchinson Island on Saturday, April 26. While some enjoyed the beach, others played volleyball, dominoes, danced, and celebrated their April’s birthdays.

As usual, all of this was made possible through the hard work of our Board of Directors: President, Carlos Bonet; Vice President, Al Feliciano, Treasurer, Josie Guadalupe, Secretary, Evelyn Carrillo; Public Relations, Vivian Megaro; Director, Nancy Rozon and Substitute Mary Figliora, the picnic committee, and other volunteers.

The nonprofit organization from Martin and St. Lucie counties was founded in 1992 and it is the oldest social, civic, benevolence and sport organization on the Treasure Coast. The mission of the club is to promote friendship and solidarity among its members and other nonprofit institutions of the Treasure Coast through cultural, social, and civic activities and to promote the knowledge of the Spanish speaking countries, their geography, history, art, and folklore.

Toys For Tots

By Evelyn Carrillo/Herman Santa

SACI would like to thank everyone who found it in their hearts to bring a toy for our Toy for Tots drive.  There will be smiles on kids’ faces in PSL and Martin Counties. A special thanks to Herman Santa and Nancy Rozon for their participation in the distribution of these toys.  I received a letter of appreciation from Ms. Suzanne Hutcheson, President/CEO of Helping People Succeed for SACI’s contributions for feeding the hungry during Thanksgiving.  I’ve also received a letter from the Reyes and Rodriguez families, who also benefit from SACI’s contributions during Thanksgiving.  The gift cards and the toys were distributed by Herman Santa in Martin County through “Helping People Succeed, Healthy Families division” in Stuart, Golden Gate, Port Salerno, and Indiantown with the help of Agueda Mejía.  A big thank you to all the golfers and friends who donated the Christmas toys for under privilege children in the area.
