PROCLAMATION – HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH

On September 12, 2016, At the Regular Meeting of the CITY COUNCIL of the City of Port St. Lucie Mayor Gregory J. Oravec, presented a proclamation for the Hispanic heritage month. On behalf of the The Spanish American Club, Inc. board our Treasurer Ruben Aleman was present to receive the proclamation. Arriva Hispanos!

The Spanish American Club, Inc. hosted a Beach Party Dance on Saturday, August 27 at the Disabled American Veterans Club in Port St. Lucie. Members and their guests enjoyed an evening of drinks, fun, snacks and dancing. Master of ceremonies and president of the club, Carlos Bonet, welcomed everyone to the party and gave an update of the status of the club and thanked every one of them for their continued support.
Followed the president’s update, the board conducted the raffles and celebrated the birthdays of the month of August while entertainer D.J. José Ramírez played a Happy Birthday song for them. A big thank to Nancy Rozon who donated the candle set to raise funds for the scholarship. Thanks to our board of directors and members who helped with the decorations, set ups and assisted throughout the night. The club’s mission is to unite the Hispanics throughout the Treasure Coast, in order to preserve our Hispanic Heritage.

Independence Celebration with D.J. José Ramírez at “DAV”

The Spanish American Club, Inc. hosted “Independence Party ” on Saturday, July 30 at the Disabled American Veterans Club in Port St. Lucie. Members and their guests enjoyed an evening of drinks, snacks, dancing and raffles. Master of ceremonies and president of the club, Carlos Bonet, welcomed everyone to the party and gave an update of the status of the club and thanked every one of them for their continued support.
Followed the president’s update, the board conducted the raffles and celebrated the birthdays of the month of July while entertainer D.J. José Ramírez played a Happy Birthday song for them, among them present were Annie Borras, Yvonne Bonet, Melissa Sanchez, Ron Bryson, Olga Guillen, Carmen Nieves, Jose Echevarria and Evelyn Cruz.
Raffle winners were Luis Carrillo, Sonia Hernandez, Olga Perea, Mercy Roman, Isabel Torres and Ricardo Castro. 50/50 winners were: Evie Cardona and Virginia Gonzalez. A big thanks to our members and guests who helped with the decorations, set ups and assisted throughout the night.



Golf 2016 (Tournament-Par 5)

On Saturday, July 16, some members of The Spanish American Club, Inc. participated in the Golf Tournament of the “Par 5 Golf Tournament at Club Med Golf Course in Port St. Lucie. Among the participants representing the club were, Ray Guadalupe, Herman Santa, Carlos Bonet and Neftali Rivera. Other golfers that play with our group were Ed Shuebert, Bernard Jethroe and Ralph Morrison. Thanks to all participants from the club who went above and beyond for a good cause. Bernard won the “Closest to the Pin”, Par 3 hole # 10, Fernando Mejia won the 50/50 ($180). Congratulations.

The Spanish American Club, Inc. “SACI” 24th Anniversary Dinner Dance on Saturday, June 25, was a festive celebration enjoyed by the members and their guests. The event was hosted at the at the Disabled American Veterans Club in Port St. Lucie. Each guest enjoyed drinks, a delicious buffet catered by the members.
Before the dinner, master of ceremonies and president of the club, Carlos Bonet, welcomed everyone to the party and gave an update of the status of the club and thanked every one of them for their continued support. We began the evening with cocktails and then enjoyed a delicious buffet. The meal consisted of stewed chicken, pulled pork, rice with chick peas, yucca with mojito (a garlic dressing), dessert and coffee.
After the dinner, the board conducted the raffles and celebrated the member’s birthdays of the month of June while entertainer D.J. José Ramírez played a Happy Birthday song for them. It was an evening filled with laughs, drinks, food, dancing and raffles. A Big Thank You to our board members Carlos Bonet; President, Nancy Rozon; Vice President, AL Feliciano; Secretary, Ruben Aleman; Treasurer, Ray Guadalupe; Public Relations, Luis Carrillo; Director (Vocal) and Melissa Sanchez; Substitute.
A special thank you to members Yvonne Bonet, Vivian Megaro, Celia Santiago and Daisy Aleman for their assistance in cooking the buffet. A big thanks to our members Angel and Nereida Pellot and Dick and Karen Diamond who helped with the decorations, set ups and assisted throughout the night.
The mission of the club is to promote friendship and solidarity among its members, neighbors and other institutions of the Treasure Coast through cultural, social and civic activities to promote knowledge of the Spanish speaking countries, their geography, history, art and folklore.

The Annual Father’s Day Dinner Dance hosted by The Spanish American Club, Inc. was celebrated on Saturday, June 25 at the Disabled American Veterans Club in Port St. Lucie. Scholarship Award 2016
Spanish American Club awards three scholarships

For the 23rd straight year, the Spanish American Club, Inc. continues its mission of preserving the Hispanic heritage and community commitment in supporting Hispanic students of Martin and St. Lucie counties.
This year recipients are Nicholas Gomez, Ariana M. Ramos and Alexia Cepeda. The tough job of choosing the winners fell to members of the 2016 Scholarship Committee: Nancy Rozon, Fe Vall de Ruten and Melissa Sanchez.
Nicholas Gomez was born in Denville, New Jersey. His parents, Walter Gomez was born in Medellin, Colombia and Ana Maria Giraldo was born in Armenia, Colombia. Nicholas graduated from St. Lucie West Centennial High School in Port St. Lucie. He will attend University of Florida and will major in Engineering. He would like to pursue a career as an Engineer.
Ariana M. Ramos was born in Puerto Rico. Her parents, Raul Ramos and Iris Perez are both natives of Puerto Rico. Ariana graduated from Treasure Coast High School in Port St. Lucie. She will attend Indian River State College and will major in Criminal Justice. She would like to pursue a career as an Attorney.
Alexia Cepeda was born in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Her parents, Jose Vargas (Legal Guardian) was born in Mexico and Maria Oviedo was born in Mexico. Alexia graduated from St. Lucie West Centennial High School in Port St. Lucie. she will attend University of Central Florida and will major in Biology with a Pre-Med Track. She would like to pursue a career as an Obgyn.
The scholarship was established in 1992 for low-income Hispanic students. Since then, the club has awarded scholarships to 39 High School Seniors. Over the past 24 years, the club has awarded more than $24,000 in scholarships to the Hispanic senior of Martin and St. Lucie counties. The board raises money for the scholarships by having monthly dance parties and organizes other events such as picnics, cruises, bowling, golf and dominoes tournaments to raise funds for the scholarship and to run the club.
