Mother’s 2013
Annual Mothers Day with D.J. José Ramírez at “DAV”

The Annual Mother’s Day Party hosted by The Spanish American Club, Inc. was celebrated on Saturday, May 18 at the Disabled American Veterans Club in Port St. Lucie. The evening began with a delicious buffet catered by Mandi’s Café and Catering. After the dinner, D.J. José Ramírez played a Mother’s Day song and a Happy Birthday song for members and their guests who were celebrating their birthdays during the month of May, among them were: Norma Miller, Ida Gallant, Ruben Aleman, Isa Bryson and Sylvia Suárez.
After the celebration of the birthdays, the president of the club Carlos Bonet thanked Ivan Guanill who coordinated the Dominoes Tournament and presented the winners. Among them were Johnny Borrás, Ruben Alemán, Billy Betancourt and Evie Cardona. Later in the evening the board conducted the raffles.
Another great party well planned by the board. Everyone had a good time. The D.J. José Ramírez did a nice job playing good Latin rhythms during the night. Special thanks to those members who donated the gifts for the door prizes.

Picnic 2013
Annual Picnic at the Jensen Beach Park

Members, families and friends of Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) attended the annual family picnic on Saturday, April 27. The weather was perfect for an outdoor event. Lots of food, music, games and laughs were had by all. After the cook out, the members and their guests celebrated Annie Del Rosario, Millie Asencio, Cecilia Vignier, Herman Santa, Lucy Santa and Carlos Bonet birthdays.
Thanks to the SACI board of directors, the picnic committee and other volunteers that made the picnic a great success. Next up on the calendar of events of the club is the Annual Mother’s Day Dance on May 18.



Cruise 2013 (Victory Casino)
A victory party held aboard the “Victory Casino Cruise“

Members and friends of the Spanish American Club, Inc. went on a one-day Cruise on board the Victory Casino Cruise on April 20. The trip was organized by Al Feliciano, Ron Bryson and Alex James. The $40 cruise trip included transportation from Port St. Lucie, boarding in Port Canaveral, buffet and $10 in free slot play.
The day was a little bit cloudy and cool, but the trip was extraordinary. The trip started at 8 a.m. from Port St. Lucie and returned after 6 p.m. Everyone enjoyed a delicious buffet, music and the casinos. Thank you, Al, Ron and Alex for planning another great cruise, we enjoyed the trip. We had a lot of fun.



Scholarship 2013 (Monjaras)
29th scholarship from the “Spanish American Club, Inc.”

The Spanish American Club, Inc. recently awarded a scholarship to local student. The recipient was Sarahi Monjaras from Stuart.
Sarahi was born in Stuart and is attending Clark Avanced Learning Center. Her parents, Misael and Irma Monjaras were born in Mexico and now are living in Stuart. She will attend Fagler College and she will major in English and will pursue a career in Journalism.
The scholarship committee selected the students for their achievements, trustworthiness, character, responsibility, fairness, caring and academics. The following members are part of the committee: Herman Santa (Chair), Nancy Rozon, Isa Bryson and Melissa Bonet-James, Co-Chairs.
The SACI scholarship was established in 1992 for low income students. Over the past 20 years, the club has awarded more than $17,000 in scholarships to the youths of Martin and St. Lucie counties.

Scholarship 2013 (Garcia)
27th scholarship from the “Spanish American Club, Inc.”

The Spanish American Club, Inc. recently awarded a scholarship to local student. The recipient was Pamela Garcia from Stuart.
Pamela was born in Chicago, Illinois and her parents are of Mexican descent. Her family has been living in Stuart and she is attending South Fork High School. She will attend University of Central Florida. She will major in English and she would like to pursue a career as an author.
The scholarship committee selected the students for their achievements, trustworthiness, character, responsibility, fairness, caring and academics. The following members are part of the committee: Herman Santa (Chair), Nancy Rozon, Isa Bryson and Melissa Bonet-James, Co-Chairs.

28h scholarship from the “Spanish American Club, Inc.”

The Spanish American Club, Inc. recently awarded a scholarship to local student. The recipient was Vanessa Guarnizo from Port St. Lucie.
Vanessa was born in Bogota, Colombia. She graduated from Lincoln Park Academy. She is attending University of Florida and majoring in Biochemical Engineering.

Mardi Gras 2013
Annual Great Mardi with D.J. Lenny at “DAV”

The Annual Mardi Gras Party hosted by The Spanish American Club, Inc. was celebrated on Saturday, March. 23 at the Disabled American Veterans Club in Port St. Lucie. More than 100 members and their guests enjoyed an evening of costumes, snacks, picadas, dancing, and of course, the beads. Everyone had a good time. D.J. “Lenny” entertained the guests with dancing music until late at night and the decoration committee did a great job.



Valentine 2013
Annual Valentine Dance with D. J. José Ramirez at the DAV

On Saturday, February 9, members and their guests celebrated the Annual Valentine Party of the Spanish American Club, Inc. at the Disabled American Veteran Club in Port St. Lucie.
During a break, the D.J. played a “Happy Birthday” song for members and their guests who were celebrating their birthdays during the month of February. The decoration committee (Nancy Rozon and Melissa James) did a good job. Some of the raffle winners were: Angel Pellot, Maria Romero, Karen Diamond, Helen Couluris, Marcel Cartagena and Unidentified guest. The Highlighs of the night were Carlos Alberto Meneses (Tango and bolero singer from Argentina) and José Ramirez (D.J. Ranchera and Bolero singer from El Salvador) who sang few songs after the raffles drawings. What a party!

Bowling 2013
Let’s go bowling!

Do you like bowling? Can you be a team player and willing to practice once a week or once in a while? If you are a member or not of the Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) and answer yes to these questions, I would like to hear from you! We practice once a week on Mondays at the Jensen Beach bowl. We start at 6:30 until 8:30 P.M., which will give us enough time to play three games. The practices are voluntarily. If you like bowling and would like to make new friends, come and join us and have fun with us. We are a fun group! Ha bolear se ha dicho!



Golf 2013
Let’s play golf!
Los socios y amigos del “Spanish American Club, Inc.”(SACI) continuan jugando golf en el campo de golf de “The Saint” en Port St. Lucie. Todos los miercoles después de las 9 de la mañana. Herman Santa, Luis Rosa, Nick Arnell, Mike Smith, Doug Bortz, Ralph Harrison, Bernie Jethroe, Roberto Belardo, Rubén Sánchez, Gil Hulting, Don Taber, Jaime Rojas, Mike Perez, Manny Carcel, Tony Colón, Neftalí Rivera, Jorge Pérez, Fernando Mejía, Ruben Aleman, Pete Marrero and Ed Seubert. están participando en los “Try Outs” desde que se formó el grupo hace más de 20 años. Se empieza hasta que se llegue a los veinte juegos para determinar el “Handicap” de cada jugador. Algunos apuestan en los hoyos de “Par 3” y otros en el total de puntos (1 punto por el Boggie, 2 puntos por el Par, etc.) al final del juego. La esperanza del grupo es unir a los golfistas hispanos y hacer un torneo de golf al final de la temporada para recaudar fondos para la beca que ofrece el club a estudiantes hispanos de bajos ingresos. Las personas que estén interesadas en unirse al grupo pueden llamar a Herman o visitor el clubhouse los miercoles. !Ha Jugar golf se ha dicho!
