19th Anniversary of SACI with Max Duhalde at Spanish Lakes clubhouse in Ft. Pierce

The Spanish American Club, Inc. held its 19th Anniversary on Saturday, September10 at Spanish Lakes clubhouse in Ft. Pierce.  The food was delicious, the music was good, and the board gave away many door prices.  Over 50 members and guests attended the event.  The members prepared the event’s menu, which featured arroz con gandules, frijoles negros, yucca, fried chicken, pastas, vegetables and salads.

Right after the dinner and the coffee, they celebrated the member’s birthdays.  Among them were Joe Abbate and Karen Diamond.  Then they danced until late at night with the rhythm of Max Duhalde.  Door prize winners were: Gladys Piñeiro, Millie Gordon, Ida Gallant, Billie Betancourt and Virginia Feliciano.  Juan Piñeiro won the 50/50 and Cecilia Pulido won the hot dance contest.

The members have been celebrating the events for nearly two decades now.  Many thanks to the board of directors who donated the door prizes and those who helped planned the event.  The board extends its thanks to generous members who bought tickets for the 50/50.

Despedida a la familia Prado

On Friday, August 28, and Saturday, August 29, friends of Jorge and Teresa Prado threw a “Farewell Party” at the Santa family’s residence in Jensen Beach. The Prados, Preciados, and Santas ended up celebrating at the 17th anniversary party of the club in Ft. Pierce. The Prados will be moving to Bogotá, Colombia. We wish them good luck in their new home.

Luau with D.J “Mendoza Sound” at The Spanish lakes Clubhouse

Aloha! Tropical music, leis and a luau was what members and their guests of the Spanish American Club, Inc.  encountered at the Annual Luau Party on Saturday, August 20th, 2011, at a private clubhouse in Ft.  Pierce.  Approximately 60 members and their guests took part in the event.   The clubhouse was transformed into a tropical paradise.  They feasted on a latin buffet prepared by the members, socialized and packed the dance floor to get down to the sweet sound of “Mendoza Sound”.

Among the guests were: Juan Carlos and Odette Gayoso and Vivi Bercey.  After the dinner, master of ceremony Karen Diamond called up the names of the members and guests that were present to celebrate their birthdays.  Among them were: Angenol Pellot, Ron Bryson, Lionel Román, Linda Manzanares and three unidentified guests.  They were asked to stand near the birthday cake while the D.J. played a “Happy Birthday” song for them.  Followed the birthday celebration, the board held the raffles for the grand prize, 50/50 and door prizes.  The grand prize winner ($500) was Mary Figliola.  Mario Franceschi and Eddie Heltzer ($45 each) were the lucky winners of the 50/50.

Door prize winners were Virginia Feliciano, Nereida Pellot, Reinaldo Matias and 4 other unidentified guests.  The hat dance contest winner was Nereida Pellot.  Special thanks go to the decoration and set ups committees, and the board of directors who donated the door prizes and helped to make the event a success. And finally, thanks to the generosity of the attendees who bought raffle tickets for the event.

Scholarship 2011 (Rodriguez)

22nd scholarship from the “Spanish American Club, Inc.”

The Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) awarded a third scholarship this year to a local Hispanic student.  The third student is Adriana Rodríguez who was born in Santiago   de Cuba and now lives in Port St. Lucie.  Adriana was graduated from Port St. Lucie High School.  She will study Physiology at Indian River State College.

The student was selected as a winner for the year 2011 from more that 16 students who applied for the scholarship of the club.  The award is presented each year by the club and is based on grades, academic accomplishments and economic needs.

This year scholarship committee is chaired by Herman Santa and co-chairs are Isa Bryson and Nancy Rozon.  They selected the students (Adriana Rodriguez, Nancy Velazquez and Tatiana Muñoz) for their achievements, trustworthiness, character, responsibility, fairness, caring and academics.

The students were asked to write an essay in Spanish and submit letters of recommendation.  They were interviewed by the committee and were asked several questions concerning their goals and objectives and why they deserved the scholarships.  The students have been awarded $500 scholarships each.

The (SACI) is a non profit organization.  The club was founded in 1992 by 9 Hispanics families from Martin and St. Lucie Counties to promote the Hispanic heritage and to unite the Hispanics on the Treasure Coast.  The SACI scholarship was established in 1992 for low income Hispanic students.  Over 25 High School seniors from Martin and St. Lucie had benefited from the scholarships.  Over $13,000 has been awarded to them.

Annual Thanksgiving at the residence of Herman and Lucy Santa in Jensen Beach

The members of the Spanish American Club, Inc. gathered with their guests at the Santa family residence in the city of Jensen Beach to celebrate Thanksgiving. The celebration began with cocktails, snacks, and music. After dinner, the members’ birthdays were celebrated.

Among those present were Ana Swift, Gladys Piñeiro, Sandra Reyes, and Lily Betancourt. Then the dancing started, and they danced late into the night.

Scholarship 2011 (Muñoz)

21st scholarship from the “Spanish American Club, Inc.”

For the 18th consecutive year, the Spanish American Club, Inc. has awarded Scholarships to 23 students. Since beginning the program in 1993, the club has given over $13,000 to help area students.  Scholarships are given on the basis of application through their high school and a series of interviews with a scholarship committee chaired by Herman Santa and co-chaired by Nancy Rozon and Isa Bryson.

The recipient is Tatiana Munoz who was born in Medellín, Colombia and lives in Port St. Lucie. She will be studying Business Administration at Indian River State College.  She has been awarded $500 scholarship. On Saturday, April 7, the members of the “Spanish American Club, Inc.” (SACI) bid farewell to Dr. Enrique Ospina and his wife Rae Anne at the Copa Cabana restaurant in “Hutchinson Island” (Jensen Beach). The Ospinas are moving to Minnesota. We wish them good luck in their new home.

Farewell to Preciado family

On Friday, March 18, and Saturday, April 1, the members of the “Spanish American Club, Inc.” (SACI) held a farewell for William and Amparo Preciado at the homes of the Santas and Gallant-Schroedl in the cities of Jensen Beach and Port St. Lucie. The Preciados are moving to Medellín, Colombia. We wish them good luck in their new home.

Annual Picnic at Jensen Beach Park

Close to 45 persons partied under a hot and sunny but breezy afternoon at the Annual Family Picnic of the Spanish American Club, Inc.  The event was held at Jensen Beach Park on Hutchinson Island on Saturday, July 9, 2011.  Perfect weather for a picnic kept guests enjoying latin food, drinks, music and games.  After the “Asado”, the members and their guests celebrated their birthdays.  The scholarship committee raffled the 50/50.  The winner of the 50/50 was Celia Santiago.

Among the guests were: Tatiana Muñoz (Winner of this year scholarship).  Blanca González (Gladys Piñeiro sister).  Mirta, Cookie, Joe, Santiny, Hector, Victor, Abigail and David (Friends of Agenol and Nereida Pellot).  Also, Noami and Patrick Koch , Jennifer Bonbor and their children Jada and Caleb (Virginia Feliciano sister and brother-in-law).

And last but not the least, John and Blanche Duval, Jaimie Rivera Duval and Danny Duval (Jimmy Rivera, daughter and her husband with his in-laws) and Thomas Heindein and his girl friend (Danny Duval friends).  Luie Goméz and Rosie Pagán (Millie Gordon son and his wife).  Thank you to the board of directors and the picnic committee who helped to make the event a success.  Next up on the event calendar for SACI is the Annual Luau of the club on Saturday, August 20.

Christmas 1998

“Christmas Party” and “Christmas Toys Drive” at the residence of the Santas

On Saturday, December 18th, the members of the “Spanish American Club, Inc.” celebrated their annual Christmas party at the residence of Herman and Lucy Santa in the city of Jensen Beach.

After the appetizers and cocktails, the Christmas toys were collected to be donated in Indiantown and Ft. Pierce by Willie González. Then dinner was served, and afterwards, dancing continued until dawn. The next activity is planned for December 31st at Jaycee Park in the city of Port St. Lucie.
