12th scholarship from the “Spanish American Club, Inc.”

By Herman Santa

The Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) awarded a scholarship to a Hispanic student for 12 consecutive years through its educational scholarship program. Viridiana Cruz, a Mexican from Indiantown and a student at South Fork High School, was the winner of the $500 scholarship that will help cover admission and book expenses at Indian River Community College (IRCC). The scholarship comes from the funds raised through the club’s activities such as raffles (50/50), golf tournaments, domino games, tours, and more.

The selection of the winner is carried out by the Scholarship Committee of the club, which is selected by the Board of Directors of the club. The student is chosen based on their financial need, academic qualifications, and their ability to read, write, and speak the Spanish language. This year, the scholarship committee consists of myself, Director Isa Bryson, Gladys Velez, and Nancy Rozon. Also on the committee to help raise funds are Dr. Enrique Ospina, Bobby Rodríguez, and Rico Arnell. Thank you all for the support you have given me.
