The 2008 Scholarship Committee of the “Spanish American Club, Inc.” (SACI) selected Floriberta Reynoso, a student from “Westwood High School” in Ft. Pierce. Known as “Flor” to her family and friends, she was born in Houston, Texas, to Mexican parents; she lives in Ft. Pierce and plans to study medicine with a specialty in dental hygiene at “Indian River Community College.”

The committee is made up of teachers Nancy Rozon, Isa Bryson, and myself. The SACI is a non-profit social entity whose goal is to preserve Hispanic heritage in the area. It operates on funds obtained through social activities such as tours, barbecues, golf tournaments, dominoes, bowling, and monthly meetings at the residences of the members. Since its founding in 1992, SACI has benefited over 20 Hispanic students with financial aid totaling more than $10,000.
