Annual Scholarship Night Dance with D.J. at the Elks Lodge

The Scholarship Committee of The Spanish American Club, Inc. hosted a Scholarship Night Dinner Dance on Saturday, July 11 at the Elks Lodge in Port St. Lucie.
The fund raiser was a great success thanks to many members, their guests, donors and local merchants for the benefit of local Hispanic students. More than $2,000 was raised through ticket sales and silent auction donations.
This writer, scholarship director and master of ceremonies welcomed everyone to the event and gave a short history of the scholarship program since 1992, thanked every one for their continued support. Shortly after, we enjoyed a delicious buffet prepared by the chef of the Elks Lodge. The meal consisted of salad, chicken, fish, bake potato, vegetable medley, dessert and coffee.
The scholarship committee raffled the grand prize (a grill valued at $400), had a 50/50 raffle, dance lessons raffles and the sale of other various certificates. The grand prize winner, Ray Guadalupe; 50/50 raffle winner, Dan Carroll; and dance lessons were: Lucero Zepeda, Stella Paez, Laura Moylan and Charlie Quiles.
Buyers of certificates: Carlos Bonet (1 round of golf from The Saints, 1 bowling from Saint Lucie Lanes and 1 Oil change from Tilden Amalie LLC Auto Repair). Ray Guadalupe (1 hour golf lesson from PGA Golf instructor Mel Bryant). Randy Lenna (1 gift card from Chilli’s Restaurant and Laura Moylan (2 gift certificates from St. Lucie lanes.
The Highlight of the night was ball room dance instructor Slavojka Marcovic who gave us a Bachata group dance lesson and the rest of the night every one danced to the tunes of the talented D.J. José Ramírez. It was an evening of fun, great food, dancing and happy winners.
A big Thank You to the co-chairs of the scholarship committee Nancy Rozon, Fe Vall de Ruten and Melissa Bonet. Special thanks to the President of our club Carlos Bonet for his help with the raffle ticket sales and his assistance organizing this event. And last but not least, to our Treasurer Ron Bryson who worked very hard helping with the dance and grill ticket sales.

Father’s 2015
Spanish American Club celebrates Father’s Day

The Annual Father’s Day Dinner Dance hosted by The Spanish American Club, Inc. was celebrated on Saturday, June 27 at the Disabled American Veterans Club in Port St. Lucie.
Before the dinner, master of ceremonies and president of the club, Carlos Bonet, welcomed everyone to the party and gave an update of the status of the club and thanked every one of them for their continued support. We began the evening with cocktails and then enjoyed a delicious buffet. The delicious food was cooked by the members Millie Asencio, Vivian Megaro, Melissa Bonet and Yvonne Bonet. The meal consisted of salad, chicken, pulled pork, black beans, vegetable medley, broccoli, fried bananas “maduros”, dessert and coffee.
After the dinner, the board conducted the raffles and celebrated the member’s birthdays of the month of June while entertainer D.J. José Ramírez played a Happy Birthday song for them, among them were: Alicia Abbate, Roberta Linares, Gilbert Paredes, Quique Alvarado, Maite Peterson and Lucero Zepeda. Raffle winners were: Daisy Alemán, Virginia González, Nereida Pellot, Millie Asencio and Josie Guadalupe.
It was an evening filled with laughs, food, dancing and raffles. A special thank you to Gustavo Santa, Melissa Bonet, Cathy Migliore, and Lionel Roman for their assistance in serving the buffet. A big thanks to our board of directors and members Ray Gudalupe, Daisy Alemán and Félix Asencio who helped with the decorations, set ups and assisted throughout the night.

The Annual Mother’s Day Party hosted by The Spanish American Club, Inc. was celebrated on Saturday, May 30 at the Disabled American Veterans Club in Port St. Lucie.
Before the dinner, master of ceremonies and president of the club, Carlos Bonet, welcomed everyone to the party and gave an update of the status of the club and thanked every one of them for their continued support. We began the evening with cocktails and then enjoyed a delicious buffet catered by the members of the club. The meal consisted of salad, chicken, beef, red beans, rice, yucca, dessert and coffee.
After the dinner, the board conducted the raffles and celebrated the member’s birthdays of the month of May. Entertainer D.J. José Ramírez played a Happy Birthday song for members and their guests who were celebrating their birthdays during the May.
A big thank to our president Carlos Bonet and his board of directors, Ron Bryson, Nancy Rozon, Melissa Bonet, Al Feliciano, Tony Colón and Fe Valderuten. A special thank you to Isa Bryson, Jonathan Colón, Melissa Bonet, Dr. Jack Mithchell, Yvonne Bonet for their assistance in serving the food. And finally, many thanks to the members who helped with the decorations, set ups and prepared the food. It was an evening filled with camaraderie, laughs, food, dancing and raffles.

Golf 2015 (Tournament-SACI)
Spanish American Club hosts Annual Golf Tournament

The Spanish American Club, Inc. Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament was held Wednesday, May 20 at The Saints Golf Club in Port St. Lucie.
It was a sunny and nice morning filled with friendly competition, prizes, and a wonderful group of players. Event coordinator was Gus Migliore, co-chairs Herman Santa, Ruben Aleman and Carlos Bonet who planned an exciting event.
The event started with registration and a short meeting at 8:30 A.M. to go over the tournament rules then the golfers teed off at 9:00 A.M. for a two-person best ball tournament. The Awards Luncheon followed the tournament at the Clubhouse “19th Hole restaurant”.
Congratulations to all winners: Longest Drive -Orlando Tirado. Closest to the Pin – Ed Seubert, Lowest Scores – Ron Magrann and Ruben Aleman – Most Greenies – Ruben Sanchez and Carlos Bonet. Thanks goes to our golf committee and our club golfers and their friends for participating and making the tournament a success. It was a great day for a great cause.
Other players that participated in the tournament were: Pete Marrero, Lou Rosa, Bernard Jethroe, Gus Migliore, Al Peña, Fernando Mejia, Herman Santa, Ray Guadalupe, Tony Colón and Nick Arnell. Proceeds from the tournament went directly to the scholarship funds of the club.

Scholarship 2015 (Pérez)
33rd scholarship from the “Spanish American Club, Inc.”

The Spanish American Club, Inc. is proud to recognize one outstanding student selected to receive the club’s 2015 scholarship award. The recipients is Juan Carlos Pérez.
Juan Carlos Perez, was born in Guatemala. His parents, Jesus and Idolina Perez were also born in Guatemala. Juan is attending Jensen Beach High School. He will attend Indian River State College and will major in Business Administration.
The scholarship committee selected the students for their achievements, trustworthiness, character, responsibility, fairness, caring and academics. The following members are part of the board of directors: Carlos Bonet, president; Nancy Rozon, vice president; Melissa Bonet, secretary; Ron Bryson, treasurer; Tony Colón, public relations; Fe Vallderuten, director; and Al Feliciano, substitute. The following members are part of the scholarship committee: Herman Santa (Chair), Nancy Rozon, Isa Bryson, Fe Valderuten and Melissa Bonet, co-chairs.
The scholarship was established in 1992 for low-income Hispanic students. Over the past 23 years, the club has awarded more than $20,000 in scholarships to the Hispanic senior of Martin and St. Lucie counties. The board raises money for the scholarships by having monthly dance parties and organizes other events such as picnics, cruises, bowling, golf and dominoes tournaments to raise funds for the scholarship and to run the club.

Annual picnic at Jensen Beach Park

Over 100 members with their relatives and friends of the Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) enjoying a big bar-b-cue, music, games and birthday celebration.
The event was held at Jensen Beach Park on Hutchinson Island on Saturday, April 25. While some enjoyed a walk on the beach, others played volleyball and dominoes. After the cook out, the members and their guests celebrated birthdays of José Santiago, Carlos Bonet, Millie Asencio, Lucy Santa and Herman Santa with a big birthday cake and song.
Thanks to the SACI board of directors, the picnic committee and other volunteers that made the picnic a big success.

Annual Mardi Gras with DJ José Ramírez at “DAV”

The Annual Mardi Gras Party hosted by The Spanish American Club, Inc. was celebrated on Saturday, March. 28 at the Disabled American Veterans Club in Port St. Lucie.
Members and their guests enjoyed an evening of costumes, snacks, dancing, and of course, the beads. Our public relations director, Tony Colón and Carlos Bonet, president of the club updated the members about the next events and thanked every one of them for their continued support. Member’s birthday celebration was enjoyed by all. After the birthday celebration and raffles drawing, everyone enjoyed the entertainment of DJ José Ramírez.
Big thanks go to the members and their guests who bought tickets for the scholarship raffle. And finally, many thanks to the members who helped with the decorations.

Spanish American Club celebrates Oldies but Goodies Dance

Members of The Spanish American Club, Inc. hosted the Annual Oldies but Goodies Dance on Saturday, February 21 at the Disabled American Veteran’s Club in Port St. Lucie. Many members and their guests dressed in various outfits of the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s from different styles expressed in different countries. The event started at 7:30 p.m. with a cocktail then the 50/50, door prizes, the members February birthdays celebration and dancing music.
Fallowing the birthday celebration, the board held the drawings for the door prizes and the 50/50. were: José Rodriguez, Linda Manzanares, Yolanda Foy, Ray Guadalupe and Isa Bryson. The 50/50 split winners were: Tony Colón and Alberto Fontanal. Members and guests were entertained with the sensational latin music of D.J. José Ramírez. Event coordinators were our president Carlos Bonet and his board members Tony Colón, Ron Bryson, Al Feliciano, Melissa Bonet, Fe Vall de Ruten and Nancy Rozon who did a wonderful job planning a memorable evening that was enjoyed by all.
