If there is something beautiful in this life, it is being able to see a student graduate from school. However, not all students always reach that goal, especially if they come from low-income backgrounds. For this reason, the “Scholarship Night Dance” of the “Spanish American Club, Inc.” was celebrated on Saturday, November 18, in the ballroom of Langford Park in Jensen Beach, with the purpose of raising funds for a student who intends to continue their studies at the university level.

The grand party was fabulous with the entertainment of the famous DJ Bob Roldan and his “Salsa Express” from Port St. Lucie, which created a sensation with its repertoire of modern music. This is the third time “Salsa Express” has played for the Club and it manages to mobilize a lot of salsa dancers to Jensen Beach. Old and new friends came together to celebrate for a good cause. Some of the known attendees were: Mr. Victor Swift and his wife Ana, Dr. Rosie Avilés and her husband Rene, Dr. Chito Sarkar and his dear wife Lourdes, Engineer Kino Veléz and his kind wife Gladys, Ron and Isa Bryson, Rey and Yolanda Sanchez, John and Gloria Fischer, Maria Bentel and her family, Rafael and Ana Febus, Ray and Liz Lopéz, Herman and Lucy Santa, and the best DJ at the moment, Roberto Roldan and his family.

During a break, the committee director of the scholarship and former president of the Club, Herman Santa, welcomed the attendees and thanked them for their support and cooperation with the committee. Through this newsletter, we want to thank Bob Roldan for donating his time and talent. We also want to thank the Scholarship Committee, especially Isa Bryson and Ana Swift, who worked hard to make the dance a success. We cannot forget the members and friends who made donations. All the funds raised went to the Club’s Scholarship Fund for the year 2001. Remember that helping a Hispanic student always warms our hearts. This will be the last club activity for the public this year. The club’s upcoming activities are scheduled in the same location at the same time and with the same DJ. There will be prizes and surprises.

On January 20, 2001, the “Annual Assembly” of the members will be held. After the Assembly (after 7:00 P.M.), the public is invited to join the members in a healthy, joyful, and clean environment. Please make your reservations in advance, as only a limited number of tickets will be available for the public. On February 10, the “Valentine’s Day” will be celebrated at the same venue at the same time with “Salsa Express.” Mark your calendars, as these dances are sure to be a success. Reserve your seats in advance. Space is limited, and prices will be reasonable so that everyone can enjoy themselves with family and friends. Wishing you a happy holiday season and may the coming year bring you luck, health, and happiness!

The enthusiasm of the members, the rich Latin food, and the music made the monthly gathering of the members at Ed and María Finnerty’s residence in Port St. Lucie a delight. From early in the afternoon on June 23, the members and guests began to arrive and enjoy the delicious buffet that the Finnerty family had prepared for us. As always, it started with a cocktail while dinner was being prepared. The buffet had all kinds of offerings for the palate, from the delicious rice with pigeon peas, moros y cristianos, roasted pork to salads.

Annual Mother’s Day with D.J. Salsa Express & Latin D.J. at Jensen Beach Women’s Club

By Herman Santa

No Pictures available

Many lost their feet on Saturday, May 20th. For more than four hours, the crowd that gathered at the Jensen Beach Women’s Club drank, danced, and had fun until one in the morning. An elegant attendance graced a dance where good taste and the best company prevailed, making this activity organized by the Board of Directors one that did not lack attention to detail and surprises, from the beautiful decoration arranged by the decoration committee with floral arrangements on each table.

To organize an event of this magnitude, where the best in music is expected, it is essential to have a good Board of Directors and the support of the members who sold the tickets and the sponsors who made donations for the activity. But let’s talk about the “D.J.” The music of Robert Roldan and his “Salsa Express & Latin D.J.” was impeccable, as he played almost uninterrupted for more than four hours with precision, enthusiasm, and excellence.

Monthly “Get Together” at the residence of Daniel y Sara Lee Port St Lucie

By Herman Santa

A joyful night with compact disc music set the atmosphere for the monthly meeting of the members and guests of SACI on Saturday, April 2. The party started with a cocktail near the pool so that everyone could mingle before dinner and dancing began. Afterwards, a buffet was served with meats, rice, light salads, and delicious desserts, among other dishes. Once everyone had finished dinner, the dancing started with compact disc music provided by the young couple, Daniel and Sara Lee.

While outside, on a pleasant terrace, others sat down to enjoy some appetizers and chat in the fresh air by the pool. It was a “Get Together” with a relaxing atmosphere to relieve stress, which, like every month, the members and guests fully enjoyed. We must thank the Lee family for the invitation and for the lovely time we spent, which gave us the opportunity to connect in a friendly environment.

Monthly Get Together at the residence of John and Gertrudis Avilés in Port St. Lucie

By Herman Santa

On Sunday, February 26, the first “Get Together” of the year was held at the home of John and Gertrudis Aviles in Port St. Lucie. The party began with the monthly Board of Directors meeting one hour before the guests arrived. After the meeting, members and guests started with cocktails so that everyone could socialize before dinner and dancing began.

A large number of members and invited guests gathered there to enjoy the delicious Latin food prepared by the members themselves. After dinner, many members danced in the spacious “Florida Room” to the compact disc music provided by the Aviles family. The Aviles family had prepared a buffet that included roasted pork, rice with pigeon peas, black beans, pickled green bananas, pasta, and other favorite dishes of Hispanics. To complement the meal, they also had desserts and ice cream. We had a joyful time, thanks to the Aviles family for their hospitality and for lending their residence for the club’s monthly meeting.

Sabroso the cruise trip “Palm Beach Princess Casino”

By Herman Santa

With overflowing energy, dance, spectacle, lunch, and laughter, the traditional Cruise Trip of the “Spanish American Club, Inc.” took place successfully on Sunday, April 16. It all began when members arrived at the parking lot of the “Albertson” supermarket in Port Lucie to board the bus that the club rented from “Around the Clock.”

At exactly 8:30 in the morning, everyone was ready to celebrate such an important social event, where more than 60 people enjoyed lunch, danced, gambled at the casinos, and had fun with the shows at the “Palm Beach Princess Casino.” The successful social event, organized by the Board of Directors, was characterized by its organization, order, and punctuality. We must congratulate them on another well-planned activity, and as they say in English, “our hats are off” to all those who worked to make this trip a success.
