“Get Together” Primer from 2007 at the Abbott residence with a “Mardi Gras” flavor

By Herman Santa

On Saturday, February 24th, the first “Get Together” of the year was celebrated at the home of John and Cristina Abbott in Palm City. The vibrant personality of this joyful couple, her being Spanish and him Irish, was captured on the dance floor. Their love for music, especially Spanish music, was evident when Cristina and a guest danced flamenco on the deck that overlooks the pool, the most pleasant and enjoyable corner of their home.

The party was more than pleasant with the colorful outfits of the members dressed in the “Mardi Gras” carnival style and with the cuisine provided by the members who brought delicious Creole dishes to share and delight even the most discerning palates. After dinner, this humble servant and club president thanked everyone for coming and sharing the first monthly meeting of the year together, also expressing gratitude to the Abbotts for lending their residence.

Then the birthdays of the present members were celebrated, culminating in informing the members and guests. The best costume of the meeting was the German couple George and Martha Deger. Thank you, John and Cristina, for your generous contribution to our club. Long live SACI!

15th Anniversary of the SACI with D.J. “Showtime Entertainment” at “The Grove Clubhouse” in Port St. Lucie

By Herman Santa

On Saturday, June 23rd, the “Fifteenth Anniversary” of the “Spanish American Club, Inc.” was celebrated with great success, where members and guests enjoyed a delightful dinner dance and a lot of camaraderie at “The Grove Clubhouse” in the city of Port St. Lucie. The organizers were the club directors and the Del Rosario family. After dinner, there was a break, and we had the pleasure of hearing from Elisa Rodríguez, the 1995 scholarship winner, who came from Orlando with her husband to share and celebrate our anniversary. Her speech was very emotional and inspiring, urging us to continue with the student scholarships so that other students can move forward as she did. Elisa is currently a bilingual teacher in Orlando.

Afterwards, plaques and certificates of recognition were awarded for the donations made by all the sponsors and collaborators. All the funds raised ($2,000) will go to the student scholarship of the club. The club’s anniversary cake also served to celebrate the birthdays and anniversaries of the members present in June. The event concluded with the raffle of the painting by Lydi Pallares, and the winner was Nancy Rozon. The other prize winners were: Ana Renta (two tickets to the “Latin Chamber of Commerce of the Treasure Coast” for the August festival, Amparo Preciado (two tickets to see the comedians of “Graucho’s Production”), Ron Bryson (a certificate for a haircut from “Jose’s Barber Styling”), and Martha González (a certificate donated by this server for a dinner at “Duffy’s Restaurant”). Finally, we ended up on the dance floor enjoying the vibrant music from “Showtime Entertainment.” I thank everyone for their donations, generosity, and support to make this traditional club event such a success. Truly, the 15th Anniversary was an unforgettable night. Long live SACI!
