The Spanish American Club, Inc. re-elects board

By Herman Santa

The Spanish American Club, Inc. board was re-elected to a third term at the annual meeting on January 10, 2015 held at the Disabled American Veterans Club in Port St. Lucie.

The meeting was called to order by the president Carlos Bonet, who also was the master of ceremonies and announced the candidates and other issues to be resolved. “We as an organization have grown in numbers and recognition. Last year we gave scholarships, Thanksgiving food baskets to needy families and collected Christmas toys for low-income children in Martin and St. Lucie counties. We danced, bowled, golfed, and played dominoes and volleyball. We have acknowledged and participated with other organizations to the benefit of all. I have worked over the past 2 years as president of this prestigious organization and my board members, and I decided to stay another year. It’s truly an honor to serve as this year’s Chairman of the Board and lead this dynamic group of volunteers as we all work together to achieve the goals and objectives of our club,” Bonet said.

The re-elected officers are Carlos A. Bonet, President; Nancy Rozon, Vice President; Melissa Bonet, Secretary; Ron Bryson, Treasurer; Tony Colón, Public Relations; Al Feliciano, Director; and Fe Vall de Ruten, Substitute.  After the General Assembly meeting, the members enjoyed a variety of delicious sandwiches, raffles, birthdays celebration and music.  Door prize winners were Karen Diamond, Ivan Guanill and Nereida Pellot. 50/50 winners were: Roberta Linares and Zaira Toro. Members present celebrating their birthday were: Xiomara Guanill, Nereida Pellot, Felix Asencio, Dan Depagnier, Evergilio Cardona and Ray Matias. The event ended with dancing music with D.J. José Ramírez who entertained us until late in the evening.

Many thanks to the members who donated the door prizes and those members who helped with the decoration, the set -ups and planned the event. The new board extends its thanks to generous members and their guests who bought tickets for the 50/50 drawing.  The Spanish American Club, Inc. is a not-for-profit social, civic and sport organization comprised of members in Martin and St. Lucie counties who are dedicated to the promotion and preservation of the Hispanic heritage on the Treasure Coast.
