The Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) awards 5 scholarships to Hispanic students

Since its inception in 1992, (SACI) has supported High School Seniors in the advancement of their education at Indian River State University or Florida Universities in their careers.   To date, SACI has donated more than $45,000 to 64 High School Seniors from Martin and St. Lucie counties through its annual scholarship awards.  Five outstanding students were chosen as this year’s scholarship recipients.

Fatima Alvarez was awarded $1, 000.  She was born in Stuart, Florida. Her parents are Pablo Álvarez and Dora Tejeda.  He was born in Veracruz, Mexico and she was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.  Fatima attended South Fork High School, Stuart, Florida, and she will be attending Indian River State College IRSC where she will be pursuing a degree in Nursing with hopes of becoming a Nurse.

Andre Mendoza was awarded $1, 000. He was born in La Jolla, California.  His parents are Juan Rafael Mendoza and Fabiola Diaz Montes Rojo.  They were born in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico.  Andre attended Martin County High School in StuartFlorida, and he will be attending Louisiana State University where he will be pursuing a degree in Digital Marketing. Deysi Bamaca was awarded $1, 000. Deysi was born in Stuart, Florida.  Her parents are Jose Bamaca-Domingo & Juana Palacios-González.  Deysi attended South Fork High School, Stuart, Florida, and she will be attending The University of Central Florida where she will be pursuing a degree in Nursing with hopes of becoming a Nurse.

Jennifer Gil was awarded $1, 000.  She was born in Stuart, Florida and currently resides in Indiantown, FL.  Her mother is Sandra Ramirez.  She was born in Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico.  Jennifer attended South Fork High School in Stuart, Florida.  She will be attending Indian River State College (IRSC) where he will be pursuing a degree in Nursing. Her ultimate ambition is to become a Travel Nurse.

Paola Villarroel was awarded $1,000. Paola was born in Caracas, Venezuela. She moved to the United States in 2019 by herself. Her parents are German Villarroel and Carolyn DíazThey were born in Caracas VenezuelaShe attended Clark Advanced Learning Center in Stuart, Martin County, Florida. She will be attending the University of Central Florida where she will be pursuing a degree in Biomedical Science with a Neuroscience track.

This year scholarship committee Chair by Nancy Rozon and Co-chair by Pamela Peña Elizabeth Mejía and Herman Santa along with the board of directors Carlos Bonet, President; Nancy Rozon, Vice President; Evelyn Carrillo, Secretary; Josephine Guadalupe, Treasurer; Vivian Megaro, Public Relations: Pam Peña, Director; Mary Figliola, Substitute Director did a magnificent job selecting the students and running the program smoothly. The committee selected the students for their achievements, trustworthiness, character, responsibility, fairness, and academics.

The mission of the club is to promote friendship and solidarity among its members, neighbors, and other nonprofit organizations of the Treasure Coast through cultural, social, civic, charity and sports activities to promote knowledge of the Spanish speaking countries, their geography, history, art, and folklore.

Scholarship Committee

This year’s scholarship committee: Chaired by Nancy Rozon and Co-chaired by Elizabeth Mejia, Pamela Peña, and Herman Santa, in conjunction with the Board of Directors, will continue selecting the students and running the program smoothly.  The committee selects the students for their academic achievements, financial needs, trustworthiness, character, responsibility, and fairness.

The scholarships are awarded based on financial need and a GPA of 3.0 or better.  Letters of recommendation on behalf of applicants are accepted. The recipients will be selected after a one-on-one interview by The Spanish American Club, Inc. Scholarship Committee. Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements for consideration: (1) Martin or St. Lucie County senior.  (2) Resident of either county. (3) Copy of the original transcript from the high school. (4) Financial statement.

GENERAL INFORMATION:  The Spanish American Club, Inc. is a non-profit Organization whose main goals are to promote friendship and solidarity among its members and other institutions, through charitable, cultural, civic and social  activities , and to promote the knowledge of the Spanish speaking countries, geography, history, art, culture and folklore.  The Spanish American Club, Inc. Scholarship Program is geared for Hispanic Seniors of Martin & St. Lucie counties Public High Schools.
