Scholarship 2017 (Garcia)
39th scholarship from the “Spanish American Club, Inc.”

The Spanish American Club, Inc. is proud to recognize one outstanding student selected to receive one of the five club’s 2017 scholarship awards. The recipient is Gabriela Garcia of Ft. Pierce. Gabriela Garcia was born in Ft. Pierce, Florida. Her parents, José Garcia and María Garcia were born in Mexico. Gabriela is attending Fort Pierce Central and she will graduate with a 5.3 GPA ranked #10 in her senior class of approximately 700 students. She will attend University of Florida and will major in Health Science with a Pre-Medicine Track. She would like to pursue a career as an Orthopedic Surgeon.
The scholarship committee selected the students for their achievements, trustworthiness, character, responsibility, fairness and academics. The following members are part of the board of directors: Ruben Aleman, president; Nancy Rozon, vice president; Luis Carrillo, treasurer; Al Feliciano, secretary; Ray Guadalupe, public relations; Isa Bryson, director and Carlos Mejia, substitute. The following members are part of the scholarship committee: Nancy Rozon, Chair; Fe Valderuten and Ron Bryson, co-chairs.
The scholarship was established in 1992 for low-income Hispanic students. Over the past 25 years, the club has awarded more than $28,000 in scholarships to the Hispanic senior of Martin and St. Lucie counties. The board raises money for the scholarships by having 50/50 raffles at the monthly dance parties. The board also organizes other events such as picnics, cruises and garage sales. The committees organize events such as bowling, golf and dominoes tournaments. The members bowl every Monday at 6:00 P.M. at the Saint Lucie Lanes. The bowling group has a 50/50 raffle on the first Monday of the month.
The mission of the club is to promote friendship and solidarity among its members, neighbors and other non profit organizations of the Treasure Coast through cultural, social, civic, charity and sports activities to promote knowledge of the Spanish speaking countries, their geography, history, art and folklore.

The event was held at Jensen Beach Park on Hutchinson Island on Saturday, April 29. Perfect weather for a picnic kept everyone enjoying a barbecue with drinks, music and games. While some enjoyed a walk on the beach, others played dominoes or rummykub.

Members with their relatives and friends of The Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) enjoyed a day at the beach, bar-b-cue, music, games and birthday celebration. The event was held at Jensen Beach Park on Hutchinson Island on Saturday, April 29. While some enjoyed the beach, others played volleyball and dominoes. After the cook out, the members and their guests celebrated birthdays of Carlos Bonet, Lucy Santa and Herman Santa. Thanks to the SACI board of directors, the picnic committee and other volunteers that made the picnic a big success.

Golf 2017 (Tournament-Holy Family)
The Spanish American Club, Inc. golfers sponsored Holy Family Golf Tournament

On Saturday, April 22, 2017, some members of The Spanish American Club, Inc. participated on the Golf Tournament of the Holy Family at Gator Trace Golf Course in Ft. Pierce.
Among the participants representing the club were Ray Guadalupe, Al Peña, Luis Arroyo, Gus Migliore, Ruben Aleman, Luis Rosa, Roberto Belardo and Orlando Tirado. Thanks to all participants who went above and beyond for a good cause.

On Saturday, April 8, some members of The Spanish American Club, Inc. participated in the Golf Tournament of the United Veterans of Saint Lucie County, Inc. at Gator Trace Golf Course in Ft. Pierce.
Among the participants representing the club were Ray Guadalupe, Luis Arroyo, Ruben Aleman, Herman Santa and Jim Marquart. Thanks to all participants who went above and beyond for a good cause.



Mardi Gras 2017
Annual Mardi Gras with D.J Johnny Saltos at DAV

The Annual Mardi Gras Party hosted by The Spanish American Club, Inc. was celebrated on Saturday, March. 25 at the Disabled American Veterans Club in Port St. Lucie.
Members and their guests enjoyed an evening of costumes, snacks, dancing, and of course, the beads. Our president Ruben Aleman and public relations director, Ray Guadalupe updated the members about the next events and thanked every one of them for their continued support.
Member’s birthday celebration was enjoyed by all. After the birthday celebration and raffle drawings, everyone enjoyed the music of our talented D.J. Johnny Saltos. Big thanks go to the members and their guests who bought tickets for the scholarship raffle. And finally, many thanks to the set up committee and the decoration committee who did a great job.
The Spanish American Club, Inc. is a not-for-profit social organization comprised of members in Martin and St. Lucie who are dedicated to the promotion and preserve of the Hispanic heritage on the Treasure Coast. The members meet every month to socialize, dine and dance.

Event 2017 (Garage Sale)
Garage Sale

On Saturday, February 25, 2017, the members held a “Garage Sale”. Some people call it Garage Sale, Yard Sale others Yard Sale. Whatever the name that is called, it was a success.
Thanks to the committee Ruben and Daisy Aleman, Nancy Rozon, Luis and Evelyn Carrillo, Ray Guadalupe, Isa and Ron Bryson and Carlos Mejia. Our thanks and gratitude go to other members that helped and assisted the committee selling the items: among them, Angel Pellot, Nereida Pellot, Josie Guadalupe, Evelyn Carrillo and Aida Nieves. They also donated many items for a good cause.
And last but not the least a big thank those members that donated articles for the “Garage Sale” to raise funds for the scholarship. They are: Rosendo and Virginia Gonzalez, Herman and Lucy Santa, Augusto and Ana Rodriguez, Joe and Alicia Abbate, Dana and Maite Peterson, Dick and Karen Diamond to mention a few. Your support is greatly appreciated.


Valentine 2017
Annual Valentine Dance with D.J Music at Club Med Resort

The Spanish American Club, Inc. annual Valentine dinner dance on Saturday, Feb. 18 was a celebration enjoyed by members and their guests.
The event was held at the beautiful Club Med Resort in Port St. Lucie. Each guest enjoyed drinks, a delicious dinner, live entertainment and dancing the night away. Members that were celebrating their birthdays: Al Feliciano, Nancy Rozon, Martha González, Lily Cruz, Sonia Hernandez, Virginia González, Catalina Ruiz and Cathy Migliore.
A big “Thank You” to Carlos Bonet, coordinator of the event, we are blessed by your generosity. Thank you to those who volunteered, specially our board members who gave of their time, talent, knowledge and hard work: Ruben Aleman; president, Nancy Rozon; vice president, Luis Carrillo; treasurer, Al Feliciano; secretary, Ray Guadalupe; public relations, Isa Bryson; director and Carlos Mejia; substitute.
The club is a nonprofit membership organization from Martin and St. Lucie counties. The club was founded in 1992 and it is the oldest social, civic, benevolence and sport organization on the Treasure Coast. The mission of the club is to promote friendship and solidarity among its members and other non profit institutions of the Treasure Coast through cultural, social and civic activities and to promote the knowledge of the Spanish speaking countries, their geography, history, art and folklore.

The Annual Memorial Day hosted by The Spanish American Club, Inc. was celebrated on Saturday, May 18 at the Disabled American Veterans Club in Port St. Lucie. The evening began with a delicious buffet catered by Mandi’s Café and Catering. After the dinner, D.J. José Ramírez played a Happy Birthday song for members and their guests who were celebrating their birthdays during the month of May, among them were: Norma Miller, Ida Gallant, Ruben Aleman, Isa Bryson and Sylvia Suárez.
After the celebration of the birthdays, the president of the club Carlos Bonet thanked Ivan Guanill who coordinated the Dominoes Tournament and presented the winners. Among them were: Johnny Borrás, Ruben Alemán, Billy Betancourt and Evie Cardona. Later in the evening the board conducted the 50/50 raffle. The winners were: Vivian Magaro, Annie Borras, Cecilia Pulido, Ernie Monroe, Ruben Alemán, Alicia Abbate and Marlene Marrero.
Another great party well planned by the board. Everyone had a good time. The Dee Jay José Ramirez did a nice job playing good Latin rhythms during the night. Special thanks to those members who donated the gifts for the door prizes. Next month the board is planning anther party to celebrate Father’s Day on Saturday, June 22 at the same location.



Bowling 2017
Bowling Tournament to benefit scholarship

Members of the Spanish American Club, Inc. and their friends will celebrate a Bowling Tournament this year at the St Lucie Lanes, Port St. Lucie to raise funds for the scholarship of the club. The event will schedule for the Fall on a Monday night (Date, time and fee not available yet). It will be a night of strikes, splits and sleepers for the first place for male and female.
Can you be a team player and willing to practice once a week or once in a while? If you are a member of the Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) and answer yes to these questions, I would like to hear from you!
We practice once a week on Mondays at the St. Lucie Lanes, Port St. Lucie. We start at 6:00 until 9:00 P.M., which will give us enough time to play three games for $8.50- and 10-minutes practice before the games. The practices are voluntarily. If you like bowling and would like to make new friends, come and join us and have fun with us. We are a fun group!
