Event 2011 (Parade PSL 50’s Anniversary)
Spanish American Club participates in PSL Anniversary Parade
By Herman Santa
Once again, the Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) was well represented at the 50th Anniversary of the city of Port St. Lucie. The parade was held at the Port St. Lucie Civic Center on April 30. Many members and their families marched behind the banners of the club. Vice President Kathy Rivera, Past President Jimmy Rivera and President Mary Figliola held a banner with the logo of the club while they smiled at the crowd throughout the parade. Directors Nora Candelario and Nancy Rozon held another banner. Behind them were Herman Santa, Felix Asencio and Billie Betancourt with Colombian, Puerto Rican and American flags.
Many volunteers associated with SACI walked along with the members along the parade route. Among them were Robert Candelario, Al Feliciano, Angel and Nereida Pellot, Danny Duval, Jamie Rivera, Isa Gallant and Millie Gordon. Other members who didn’t walk but joined the members after the parade were Lucy Santa, Virginia Feliciano, Frank Schroedl and Laura La O.
Thank you to the members and their families who participated on the parade. With their presence, the event was a success. The SACI was the only group representing the Hispanics on the Treasure Coast.

The “Playeros,” composed of José Encarnación and his son Alex Encarnación from Port St. Lucie, have been alone in first place since the start of practices for the Domino Tournament. The “Playeros” eliminated “Los Dominantes,” made up of Herman Santa and Willie González, for the five-game playoff series. Last year in the seven-game championship, held at the González family residence, the “Playeros” improved with four victories and qualified for the tournament.

Winter 2011
Annual Winter with Disc Music at the El Floridita Restaurant
By Herman Santa
Members of the Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) and their families dined at the El Floridita Cuban Cuisine Friday, January 21, 2011, one of the most talked-about Cuban restaurants in Port St. Lucie. After the dinner the members celebrated Xiomara Guanill’s birthday. The food was fantastic and El Floridita owners, Antonio Julian and Mary Cuba offered the members and their guests a special for $10.95 with dessert. Antonio and Mary gave the directors of the club a gift certificate to be used as a door prize at our monthly events.
A great time was had by all, and SACI members now know for sure that El Floridita is one of the best Cuban restaurants on the Treasure Coast. Thanks Julian and Mary for the certificate and to all who attended, specially the board of directors.
