Halloween Dance with D.J. José Ramírez at the DAV

The annual Halloween event hosted by The Spanish American Club “SACI” was celebrated, Saturday, Oct. 29 at the Disabled American Veterans Hall in Port St. Lucie.  Members and guests were invited for birthday celebrations, snacks, tricks, or treats, 50/50 raffles, dance and door prizes. Master of ceremonies and club President Carlos Bonet welcomed everyone to the party and thanked everyone for their continued support.

Lenny Lea “Most Improved Golfer 2022”

Lenny Lea has been declared the winner of the “Most Improved Player of the Year”.  When he started playing with us last year his first game, he scored 106 with 2 points.  At the present time Lenny’s average is 100 with 6 points and 28 Handicap and 6 Points an improvement of 5 strokes and 5 points. Lenny won a 1/2-hour golf lesson donated by The Saints’ Pro Shop Manager David O’Kelly.  Lenny joined Iggy Hernandez, 2021, Harvey Taylor 2020, Jorge Crespo 2019, Ray Guadalupe 2018, and Carlos Bonet 2017.! Congrats to Lenny!

Golf 2022 (Tournament-SACI)

The Spanish American Club, Inc. “SACI” Golf Group held their Annual Scholarship Tournament

Members and their friends of The Spanish American Club, Inc. held their Annual Golf Tournament on Friday, Oct. 7th at The Saints Golf Course in Port St. Lucie.  The 2 men scramble event featured several activities, including “The Longest Drives”, “Closest to the Pins” “Low Scores”, “50/50 raffle”, etc.  Golfers enjoyed a beautiful day and camaraderie, which concluded at the 19th Hole restaurant with food, awards, and raffles.

A special award was given to Gus Migliore, Scholarship committee for his contribution to the scholarship program of our club.  The award was presented to Gus by Herman Santa, Director of the Golf  Committee of the Spanish American Club, Inc.  Congratulations to the tournament winners: Longest Drives: Harvey Taylor, Hole # 9, 285′ and Dan Pimpo, Hole # 18, 218′.  Closest to the Pin winners: Ray Guadalupe, Hole #3 2′-8″, Tony George, Hole #7, 4′-7″, Harvey Taylor, Hole # 10, 204′-11″, and Al Peña, Hole # 16, 0-64′.

1st Prize Low Scores: (53.5) Frank Camacho and Dan Camilli, Al Peña and Pam Peña (53.5).  2nd Prize Low Score: (55.0) Lenny Lea and Dan Pimpo, Harvey Taylor and Tony Guerrero.  Most Improved Player of the Year: Lenny Lea.  50/50 Raffle winner: Lou Rosa.  Other raffle winners: Gary Campbell, Dan Camilli, Ray Guadalupe and Rob Boals.

Annual Sport Fan Dance with D.J José Ramírez at the Disabled American Veterans Club

On Saturday, September 24th at the Disabled American Veterans Social Club, Port St. Lucie The Spanish American Club, Inc. held their Annual Sport Fan Dance.  Carlos Bonet, master of ceremonies and club president welcomed everyone to the party and thanked everyone for continued support.

During a break, Carlos conducted the raffles for the door prizes, 50/50 and celebrated the member’s birthdays of the month of September. The Spanish American Club was founded in 1992. The mission of the club is to promote friendship and solidarity among its members and other nonprofit organizations throughout the Treasure Coast through cultural, social, civic and sport activities; to promote knowledge of all Spanish speaking countries, their geography, history, art, and folklore.

Annual Luau Dance with D.J. José Ramírez at the Disabled American Veterans Club

The Annual Luau party hosted by The Spanish American Club, Inc. “SACI” was celebrated on Saturday   August 27th at the Disabled American Veterans “DAV” in Port St. Lucie.

It was an evening of raffles, door prizes, music, leis and of course, dancing. DJ Luis Ocasio provided the entertainment. Master of ceremonies and president of the club, Carlos Bonet, welcomed everyone to the party and thanked every one of them for their continued support. Following the president’s update, the board conducted the raffles and celebrated the birthdays of the month of August, while the D.J. played a Happy Birthday song for them. Among the present were: Otto Vega, Maritza Rivera, Flor France, Angel Pellot, Augusto Rodriguez, and Pat Wehrly.

Door prize raffle winners were Carly Wehrly, Josie Guadalupe, Javier Andrade, Gabriela Oñoto, and Elena Andrade.  The 50/50 winners were: María Garcia, Juliet Nelson, and Vivian Megaro.  A big thank you to our board who coordinated the event. A special thank you to all the members and their guests who attended and bought tickets for the raffles.  Proceeds will benefit the club’s scholarship program.

Congratulations Scholarship Recipients 2022

The Spanish American Scholarship Committee would like to introduce our 2022 scholarship recipients. The club was able to award $4,000.00 to deserving Hispanic students.

Scholarships are available because of your charitable donations either directly or through our many social activities. These students are extremely thankful to our members and have expressed so in their thank-you notes.

Brett Freedman awarded $1, 000. Brett was born in Stuart, Florida. His parents are Jason Freedman and Tisha Llopiz Freedman.  They were born in Columbus, Ohio and Atlanta, Georgia. His Grandfather was born in Havana, Cuba and came to the United States at just 15 years of age in November of 1961. Brett attended Martin County High School, Florida and he will be attending The University of Central Florida where he will be pursuing a degree in Computer Science.

Connor Freedman awarded $1, 000. Connor was born in Stuart, Florida. His parents are Jason Freedman and Tisha Llopis Freedman.  They were born in Columbus, Ohio and Atlanta, Georgia. Rebecca O’Neill awarded $1, 000.  Rebecca was born in Phoenix, Arizona. Her mother, Sandra O’Neill, moved to the United States from Carabobo, Puerto Cabello, Venezuela in 2000. Rebecca attended Clark Advanced Learning Center, Stuart, Florida, and she will be attending Indian River State College where she will be pursuing a degree in Business while studying Holistic Nutrition and the Performing Arts.

Ronaldo Bautista was awarded $1, 000.  Ronaldo attended Lincoln Park Academy, Ft. Pierce, Florida, and he will be attending Indian River State College where he will be pursuing a degree in business Administration.

This year scholarship committee Chair by Nancy Rozon and Co-chair by Pamela Peña, Elizabeth Mejía and Herman Santa along with the board of directors Carlos Bonet, President; Al Feliciano, Vice President; Evelyn Carrillo, Secretary; Josephine Guadalupe, Treasurer; Vivian Megaro, Public Relations: Nancy Rozon, Director; Mary Figliola, Substitute Director did a magnificent job selecting the students and running the program smoothly. The committee selected the students for their achievements, trustworthiness, character, responsibility, fairness, and academics.

The scholarship was established in 1992 for low-income students. Over the past 26 years, the club has awarded more than $35,000 in scholarships to 60 High School seniors of Martin and St. Lucie counties. The board raises money for the scholarships by having garage sales, 50/50 raffles at the monthly dance parties and committee events.  The board also organizes other events such as picnics, cruises, and garage sales. The committees organize events such as bowling, golf, billiard, and dominoes tournaments.

The mission of the club is to promote friendship and solidarity among its members, neighbors, and other nonprofit organizations of the Treasure Coast through cultural, social, civic, charity and sports activities to promote knowledge of the Spanish speaking countries, their geography, history, art and folklore.
