The Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) scholarship is available to graduating seniors who live in Martin and St. Lucie counties. The scholarship is administered by the Spanish American club, Inc. Scholarship Committee. This year new board of directors are: Mary Figliola, President; Kathy Rivera, Vice President; Nancy Rozon, Secretary; Nora Candelario, Treasurer and Karen Diamond. The scholarship committee are: Herman Santa, Director; Nancy Rozon and Isa Bryson, Co-Chairs. The SACI scholarship was established in 1994 for low-income Hispanic students. More than $20,000 has been awarded to local students. Thirty-four high school seniors from Martin and St. Lucie counties have benefited from the scholarships.
The scholarships are awarded based on career interest academic achievement, financial need and other criteria. Students must maintain a 3.0 grade point average (GPA).
Applicants must write a paragraph in Spanish the day of the interview, on why they feel they should be considered for the scholarship. Letters of recommendation are accepted. Two students will be selected ($750 each) after one-on-one interview by the Spanish American Club, Inc. Scholarship Committee.
Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements for consideration: (1) Martin or St. Lucie county senior. (2) Resident of either county. (3) Copy of the original transcript from the high school and (4) the student must read, write and speak Spanish. Eligible students should submit the application by Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015. Applications are available from Martin and St. Lucie counties Guidance Counselors.

Bonet, President; Alex James, Vice President; Raquel O’Connor, Secretary; Ron Bryson, Treasurer; Nancy Rozon, Public Relations; Fe Vallderuten; Director and Al Feliciano, Substitute.

The event was held at Jensen Beach Park on Hutchinson Island on Saturday, July 9, 2011. Perfect weather for a picnic kept guests enjoying latin food, music and games. After the “Asado”, the members and their guests celebrated their birthdays. The scholarship committee raffled the 50/50. The winner of the 50/50 was Celia Santiago. Among the guests were: Tatiana Muñoz (Winner of this year scholarship).

The monthly meeting of the partners of the “Spanish American Club, Inc.” was held on Saturday, July 19, at the residence of our dear member Iliana Zequeira in St. Lucie. The party began at 7:00 p.m. with cocktails and appetizers. Afterward, the guests enjoyed a delicious buffet prepared by the members themselves. Then the winner of the scholarship, Ms. María A. Fernández, was announced.

The monthly meeting of the partners of the “Spanish American Club, Inc.” was held on Saturday, July 27 at the residence of Attorney Victor Swift and his wife Ana Santiago in the Country Club neighborhood in St. Lucie West. The party started at 7:00 p.m. with cocktails and appetizers. Afterwards, the guests delighted their palate with culinary specialties prepared by the members themselves. Then, the scholarship winner, Ms. Gabriela Padilla, was presented, and immediately Victor played music for us to dance.

Annual Picnic at the Jensen Beach Park

Members, families and friends of Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) attended the annual family picnic on Saturday, April 26 at the Jensen Beach Park on Hutchinson Island. Every one enjoyed the barbecue, music, games such as dominoes, volleyball, horse shoes to mention a few. After the cook out, the members and their guests celebrated José Santiago, Ernie Monroe, Carlos Bonet and Herman Santa with a big birthday cake. Thanks to the SACI board of directors, the picnic committee and other volunteers that made the picnic a great success.

Spanish American Club members celebrated on board the “Celebration Cruise Lines”

Members and friends of the Spanish American Club, Inc. went on a two-day Cruise to the Bahamas on board the Celebration Cruise Lines. The trip was organized by our president Carlos Bonet. The trip started at 8 a.m. from Port St. Lucie Friday, April 11 from Port of Palm Beach returned Sunday, April 13 after 6 p.m. Everyone enjoyed the cruise, the buffet and the music.

The Annual Mardi Gras Party hosted by The Spanish American Club, Inc. was celebrated on Saturday, March. 29 at the Disabled American Veterans Club in Port St. Lucie. More than 100 members and their guests enjoyed an evening of costumes, snacks, dancing, and of course, the beads. Carlos Bonet, president of the club updated the members about the next events and thanked every one of them for their continued support.
After the birthday celebration and raffles drawing, everyone enjoyed the entertainment of DJ José Ramírez with his repertoire of songs he sang and played. Big thanks go to the members and their guests who bought tickets for the raffles. And finally, many thanks to the members who helped with the decorations.

Billiard 2014 (Tournament)
Spanish American Club hosts Billiard Tournament

The Spanish American Club, Inc. Billiard Tournament was hosted Saturday, March 15, at the St. Lucie Lanes in Port St. Lucie. Club member Ivan Guanill coordinated the event. The event produced enthusiastic participation by local Hispanic billiard players. The billiard tournament features a ration of 12 players in a round single’s play. The entry fee was $5 per player and players were selected by lottery. All players played at least one game for the classification. The players that lost two games were declared out of the competition.
Winners: Angel Pellot (6-0), 2nd Place: Carlos Bonet (5-1) and 3rd Place Billy Betancourt (3-2). Other players that participated were: Jimmy Rivera, Joe Castro, Herman Santa, Al Feliciano, Tony Canales, Rubén Alemán, Melanie Polanco, Javier Crespo and Tony Colón.
