Christmas Toys 2012
Christmas toys drive a big success

The members of the Spanish American Club, Inc.(SACI) collected several Christmas gifts for needy children. They started to collect them before the Thanksgiving Party on Saturday, Dec. 15 at the DAV to be distributed before Christmas Day in Stuart, Indiantown and Port St. Lucie.
The collections were split into two groups. One shared by Herman Santa (Stuart and Indiantown) and the other one by Nancy Rozon (Port St. Lucie). The club continued a 20 year tradition by donating holiday gift bags for needy children in the area. Last month the club distributed food baskets to low income families in Indiantown for Thanksgiving.
Thanks to the board of directors of the club that made this possible and to the members that made donations and helped with the Christmas Toys drive. The next event of the club is the “End of the Year Party on Saturday, Dec. 29. Future Events: The General Assembly to elect a new board on Saturday, Jan. 5, at the Disabled American Club in Port St. Lucie.



Thanksgiving 2012
Annual Thanksgiving with D.J. José Ramírez at the DAV

The members of the Spanish American Club, Inc. celebrated the Annual Thanksgiving Party on Saturday, Nov. 17 at Disabled American Veterans Club in Port St. Lucie. The board welcomed everyone to the event. After the cocktail, the president Herman Santa made some announcements and Deacon Carlos Melendez said a grace before the dinner. The meal consisted of pulled pork, rice with chicken, rice with gandules, pastas, salads and a vegetable medley. Assortments of desserts were set out for the guests to choose from, among them flan and pies. There was coffee and a birthday cake to celebrate the members December birthdays. Among them were: Vivian Magaro, Ernie Monroe, Celia Alarcón, Jorge Meléndez, Sam Del Rosario and Annie Del Rosario.
After the dinner and the riffles, entertainment took the floor. “D.J. José Ramírez did a terrific job entertaining the guests with bolero, bachata, salsa, merengue, cumbia, chacha, twist and slide dance music until 11 p.m. The decoration committee did a good job. The food was delicious and the music was great. Door prize winners were: Lily Cruz, Roberta Linares, Vivian Magaro, Sonia Hernández, Celia Alarcón, Mary Figliola and Ray Matias. A bottle of wine went to Elizabeth Mejía (Hat dance contest).
To all the members and guests who made donations for the door prizes and donated unwrapped Christmas toys for needy children, your generosity was appreciated.

Halloween 2012
Annual Halloween with José Ramirez at DAV

Over 90 members and guests attended their annual Halloween party Saturday, October 27th at the Disabled American Veterans Club in Port St. Lucie. Surrounded by Halloween decorations they enjoyed an evening of fun, with good Latin music, dancing, food and a night of masquerade. Among the scary creatures were ghosts, vampires, witches, gladiators, pirates’ nuns and many more inventive costumes.
Among the guests attending were: Amelia Lanchez, Johnny Cano, Willie and Sara Cruz, Angel and Nereida Pellot, LuzMa Carroll, Marily Kothecki, Marilu Handal, Lucero Zepeda, Pat Gomez, Ricardo Pueyo, Olga Cardozo, Andrea Moreira, Cathy Murphy, Fred Neyndorff, Frank and Vivian Magaro, Ivonne Bonet, Marissa Rivera, Catarina Ruiz, Ligia Bernas, Hans Ewald, Galo and Maria Balseca, Ruben and Daisy Aleman, Alex and Melissa James, Nelson and Aideé Leal, Jayson and Adriana Reynosa, Camilo Echeverri, Nilda Cruz, Ed and Celia Alarco, Arturo and Lola Cobos.
After the president’s announcements and grace before the dinner, the D.J. played a “Happy Birthday” song for members and their guests who were celebrating their birthdays during the month of October.
The highlight of the night was José Ramirez who sang two songs “En mi Viejo San Juan” and “El Rey” for the attendees. After the dinner, the directors held the 50/50 raffle, the door prize drawing and the best costumes contest. Many thanks to the door prizes donors: Alicia Abbate, Nancy Rozon, Lucy Santa, Maite Peterson and Al Feliciano. Special thanks to Lourdes Uceta of Latin Flavor Restaurant who donated the ice for the event.

Luau 2012

The Hispanic community came together with the Spanish American Club, Inc. on Saturday, September 22nd at the Disabled American Veterans Club in Port St. Lucie to help raise funds for the club. Over 80 members and guests attended a Luau party. The party started with cocktails followed by a succulent Latin buffet, door prizes, raffles, a hula hoop show, a hat dance contest and finished with an evening of Latin dancing.

Anniversary 2012
20th Anniversary with orchestra “Nueva Herencia Latina” at DAV in Port St. Lucie

Over 120 people attended the 20th Anniversary Party with a catered dinner and live band on Saturday, August 25, at the Disabled American Veterans Club in Port St. Lucie. Guests enjoyed a delicious Latin buffet prepared by “C. Wedding & Events” and boogied to the sweet sounds of “La Nueva Herencia Latina” band. After dinner, President Herman Santa acknowledged the many accomplishments of the club during the past 20 years and thanked all the present and previous members of the Board of Directors who served since the foundation of the club in 1992. These members were recognized for their contribution and dedicated work to the club. Those present were: Nora Candelario, Nancy Rozon, Ron and Isa Bryson, Al Feliciano, Gladys Piñeiro, Mary Figliola, Blanca Mireya Kaiser, Ray Matias, Dr. Enrique Ospina, Lucy Santa, Maite Peterson, Guillermo “Bill” Vignier and Cecilia Vignier.
The club started with nine members and today has over 100 active members representing 10 different countries including the USA, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Cuba, Venezuela, El Salvador, Perú, Ecuador, Mexico, Honduras, Spain, Argentina and Panamá. This social and civic organization has become quite influential in the Treasure Coast area, playing a key role, for instance, in the scholarship program for Hispanic students. At the present time 29 students have benefited from this college scholarship. These students have come from Mexico, Guatemala, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Venezuela and Cuba. This non-profit organization’s mission is to preserve the Hispanic heritage on the Treasure Coast and to unite Hispanics from the Treasure Coast.
After the president’s announcements, the band played “Happy Birthday” for the members and their guests who were celebrating their birthdays during the month of August. Among them were: Maritza Rivera, Juan Piñeiro, Linda Manzanares, Mireya Kaiser, Charlie Rodriguez and Luis Rosa. Following the birthday celebration, the directors held the 50/50 raffle, the door prize drawing and the hat dance contest. The 50/50 winners were: Felix Sanabria and Rae Anne Ospina. Other door prize winners were: Al Feliciano, Angel Pellot, Billy Betancourt, Maria Lopez, Chris Hickey and Mary Figliola and the hat dance contest winner was Maite Peterson.
The orchestra “Nueva Herencia Latina” directed by Luis Rosa performed several songs among them: “La pollera colorá” and “Mentirosa” (Cumbias), “Anacaona” and “La verdad” (Salsa), “Oye abre tus ojos” and “Tu sonrisa” (Merengues). DJ “Max” played between the breaks until 11:00 P.M.

Independence 2012
Independence with D.J. “Rob Torrence” from Showtime Entertainment at “DAV”

Members of The Spanish American Club, Inc. hosted the Annual Independences Party (US, Venezuela, Argentina, Colombia and Perú) on Saturday, July 21 at the Disabled American Veteran’s Club in Port St. Lucie. The 90 plus attendees were entertained by D.J. “Rob Torrence” from Showtime Entertainment. They enjoyed a night of dancing, food, door prizes and good camaraderie. After the dinner, members celebrating their birthdays during the month of July were asked to stand near the birthday cake while the DJ played the “Happy Birthday” song for them.
Followed the birthday celebration, the directors held the 50/50 raffle, the door prize drawing and the hat dance contest. The raffle winners: Carlos Melendez, Ernesta Monroe, Fernando Mejia, Larry Couloris, Gladys Velez, Quique Alvarado, Al Feliciano and Diana Sanchez. The door prize winner was Helen Couloris and the hat dance contest winner was Vicky Rodriguez. Later in the evening Marine veterans sang the Marine Corps hymn.

I want to thank Deacon Carlos Melendez for the prayer before the dinner and the Board of Directors who helped with the decorations; the set ups and planned the event. Many thanks to the door prizes donors: Nancy Rozon, Karen Diamond, Marcel Cartagena and Al Manzanares. Big thanks go to the members and their guests who bought tickets for the raffles. And finally, I want to thank Elizabeth Mejia from McDonald’s restaurant who donated the ice for the party.



Bowling 2012
SACI Bowlers

Do you like bowling? Can you be a team player and willing to practice once a week or once in a while? If you are a member of the Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) and answer yes to these questions, I would like to hear from you!
We practice once a week on Mondays at the Jensen Beach bowl. We start at 6:30 until 8:30 P.M., which will give us enough time to play three. The practices are voluntarily. If you like bowling and would like to make new friends, come and join us and have fun with us. We are a fun group!
