Independence with D.J. “Rob Torrence” from Showtime Entertainment at “DAV”

Members of The Spanish American Club, Inc. hosted the Annual Independences Party (US, Venezuela, Argentina, Colombia and Perú) on Saturday, July 21 at the Disabled American Veteran’s Club in Port St. Lucie. The 90 plus attendees were entertained by D.J. “Rob Torrence” from Showtime Entertainment. They enjoyed a night of dancing, food, door prizes and good camaraderie. After the dinner, members celebrating their birthdays during the month of July were asked to stand near the birthday cake while the DJ played the “Happy Birthday” song for them.
Followed the birthday celebration, the directors held the 50/50 raffle, the door prize drawing and the hat dance contest. The raffle winners: Carlos Melendez, Ernesta Monroe, Fernando Mejia, Larry Couloris, Gladys Velez, Quique Alvarado, Al Feliciano and Diana Sanchez. The door prize winner was Helen Couloris and the hat dance contest winner was Vicky Rodriguez. Later in the evening Marine veterans sang the Marine Corps hymn.
Among the guests attending were: Pedro and Betty Balaguera, Jorge and Carmen Perez, Neftali and Maria Rivera, Larry and Helen Couloris, Dan and Evelyn Depagnier, Bob and Georgia Leon, Bob and Iris Strickland, Marco and Dinah Herrera, Pedro and Rosa Moran, Eliseo and Maria Cruz, Maritza Ruiz, Frank Rivera, Betty Vera, Diana Sanchez, Jesus Piñeiro, Andrea Moreira, Yolanda Roca, Jana Vargas, Maritza Rivera, Ana Nieves, Catalina Ruiz and Anna Guerra.
I want to thank Deacon Carlos Melendez for the prayer before the dinner and the Board of Directors who helped with the decorations; the set ups and planned the event. Many thanks to the door prizes donors: Nancy Rozon, Karen Diamond, Marcel Cartagena and Al Manzanares. Big thanks go to the members and their guests who bought tickets for the raffles. And finally, I want to thank Elizabeth Mejia from McDonald’s restaurant who donated the ice for the party.

SACI Bowlers

Do you like bowling? Can you be a team player and willing to practice once a week or once in a while? If you are a member of the Spanish American Club, Inc. (SACI) and answer yes to these questions, I would like to hear from you!
We practice once a week on Mondays at the Jensen Beach bowl. We start at 6:30 until 8:30 P.M., which will give us enough time to play three. The practices are voluntarily. If you like bowling and would like to make new friends, come and join us and have fun with us. We are a fun group!

Among the guests were: Angel and Nereida Pellot, Angel Pellot (Son), Nereida Pellot (Daughter, Hans Ewald, Maria Delgado and Paulita Alejandro. Thanks to the board of directors who planned the event. Next up on the calendar of events of the club is the Annual Independences Party (Celebration of the independences of USA, Venezuela, Argentina, Colombia and Perú) on Saturday, July 21.
Scholarship 2012 (Morales)
25th scholarship from the “Spanish American Club, Inc.”

The Spanish American Club, Inc. recently awarded a scholarship to a local Hispanic student. The one year scholarship of $500, which is dependent on trust earnings, covers tuition, books, school supplies or other college expenses. The recipient of the 2012 scholarship award is Lorena Morales who was born in Mexico and lives in Indiantown. Lorena is a student at Martin County South Fork High School will attend Indian River State College to become a nurse.
Lorena was selected as a winner from more that 15 students who applied for the scholarship of the club. The award is presented each year by the club and is based on grades, academic accomplishments and economic needs. The scholarship was established in 1994 and has awarded over $14,000 since its inception. More than 26 high school students have benefited from the scholarships.
This year scholarship committee chair is Herman Santa, co chair with Isa Bryson, Nancy Rozon and Nora Candelario selected the students for their achievements, trustworthiness, character, responsibility, fairness, caring and academics. The students were asked to write an essay in Spanish and submit letters of recommendation. They were interviewed by the committee and were asked several questions concerning their goals and objectives and why they deserved the scholarship. The students have been awarded $500 scholarships.

Vladimir is a student at Lincoln Park Academy will attend Indian River State College to become an engineer.

The Spanish American Club, Inc. recently awarded another scholarship to a local Hispanic student. The one year scholarship of $500, which is dependent on trust earnings, covers tuition, books, school supplies or other college expenses.The recipient of the 2012 scholarship award is Vladimir Villa who was born in Mexico and lives in Stuart. Vladimir is a student at Martin County High School will attend Indian River State College to become a teacher.

Annual Spring with D.J. music at the Disabled American Veteran’s Club

The Annual Spring Party hosted by The Spanish American Club, Inc. was celebrated on Saturday, March 24 at the Disabled American Veteran’s Club in Port St. Lucie. Over 80 members and guests enjoyed an evening of camaraderie, drinks, good food and dancing. Among the guests attending were: Angel and Nerida Pellot, Cathy Murphy, Fred Neyndorff, John Lamplough, Elsie Sanguineti, Bill Shaw, Lilian and Abel Cruz, Frank and Vivian Magaro, Carlos, Frances Barret, and Ivonne Bonet, Rachel O’Cconnell, Maritza Rivera, Carmen Nieves, Manny and his wife Carcel, Catarina Ruiz, Ray Cruz, Steve and Edith Junda, Jorge and Esther Rivera, Jose and Lucero Zepeda, Carolina Weeks, Ligia Bernas, Olga AveigaPatrick Leake, Patricia and Patrick Pactong, Mario and Diana Pactong, Sara Marut and Hans Ewald.
